I's where you parked your car!!! : ). What kind of Brooklynite doesn't know where Cropsey ave is? I can say its not far from Coney island.

Great shot brooklyn native!

The problem is many people think Brooklyn ends in Prospect Park and there's no life outside of it. Reminds me of a decade or two earlier: Manhattan residents were wondering where the hell Brooklyn is...
Posted by: Gravis at December 3, 2008 9:12 AM
That's further away from me than Manhattan!!!
I found it on the map.
BTW...the best interactive map out there with street names and a subway overlay is http://www.onnyturf.com/subway/

DIBS, I think you should get the photo caption lifetime achievement award just based on that one-liner!
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 9:13 AM
Not so far off Gravis...I moved to Manhattan in 1994 and moved to Brooklyn in 2007...between 1994 and 2007 I had been in Brooklyn once!!!
There is however life east of Prospect Park. :)
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 3, 2008 9:15 AM
anyone see the ad on TV...
" The Grand Prospect Hall, We make your dreams come true!"
Posted by: Prodigal_Son at December 3, 2008 9:18 AM
Prodigal Son...that's on CNBC all day long....I don't know which ad I like more, that one or the guys from Fiberama, the fiberglass awning company and their "works of art" LOL

DIBS,
Also, there are lots of private houses on Ocean Ave besides the dozen in PLG and yes, it is still oficially Brooklyn :)

What is not seen in the photo, is at the end of the leash are my two bitches, DIBS and Biff!!

Ok sam, I have to admit that was good. However, Mama Champion doesn't own a dog (assuming that's what's on the end of her leash).
"Sorry, to get to this thread so late, but I has having breakfast at a cute outdoor cafe in Coney Island."
- Funny!
"I don't care what you two buffoons (DIBS and Biff) say. I AM HOT!!!!"
- Who said the woman in the photo isn't hot? Polemicist would hit that.

"I wonder is she can move her booty like this:

Come now, Biff, you're so cool and hip, with all the Stoop Dog you listen to, I would think you can find better booty videos.

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 11:17 AM
This really is a great shot Brooklynative. It reminds me of the artist who's work, mostly pencil and charcoal sketches, was displayed in the subway museum in BH for awhile - I think he died recently - he would capture people lost in thought while going about their lives... sitting on the subway, looking at a squirrel, watching a playground across the street thinking about something difficult...
It feels a little sad and perfectly, puzzlingly human to me. Wonder about what she is thinking. And she looks to be in her late 70's or early 80's, but still she keeps her hair dyed, puts on her lipstick, pencils in her eyebrows, wears a bit of jewelry, tries to match her clothes and so on. The dog, I suspect, is cute and yippy. Maybe no.
Thanks DIBS for that map! Very helpful.

"No, I got it the first time (with your initial trimmed down post)."
Good, boy...you're not as hopeless, as I thought ;)
I'll loosen the leash.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 11:34 AM
great photo.. reminds me of my grandmother...
Posted by: Amzi Hill at December 3, 2008 12:05 PM
Hey Nokilissa, how've you been? I was thinking of you this morning wondering when you would resurface.
Anyway, there you had to go and humanize this beautiful (in her own way) and surely sweet woman, who likely is (or at least was) someone's wife, mother, grandmother. She probably has 1,000,000 interesting stories of her life and has endured hardships our generation has been fortunate to avoid that would be worthy of a novel or at least a made for TV movie! Good for her going and getting all dolled up to go walk her dog or have a coffee and/or do whatever she was doing. I was feeling a little hesitant at first to enter the caption contest, but my wild and convenient imagination is telling me this woman has a great sense of humor and is laughing right along with us, especially at the jokes we're making at our own expense.

Awwww. Hi Biff.
We were in Acapulco for 10 days. Got pulled over three times in 2 days by "cops". By the third time we were refusing to hand over license, cash, anything. Pretending to be idiots, speaking ONLY English and asking for a paper ticket por favor.
I think we had to come home to relax. What the hell kind of glass-half-empty attitude is that? It was still great.
Any good stories of late? Any holiday parties being planned? I think I will have a glass of eggnog with Mexican rum tonight to toast the advent of the season.
Posted by: Nokilissa at December 3, 2008 12:30 PM
Nokilissa, you're absolutely right.
Biff, well said.
Can we still have fun at our expense?
"Wonder about what she is thinking."
- Why do I post on Brownstoner?
I'm in my 30's and I keep my hair dyed, put on lipstick and groom my eyebrows. I wear jewelry and try to match my clothes to my plastic pumps.
My dog is a lap dog. His name is John John.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 12:34 PM
Nokilissa, glad you had a chance to get some R&R. As you're well aware, there are tons of good stories every day here. As for the holiday parties; if you're referring to another 'Stoner get together, I haven't tried to put it together. I was thinking perhaps some time in the new year as everyone's so busy over the holidays. Plus, I think it makes sense to keep them spread out a bit...absence makes the heart grow fonder, even amongst us hard nosed bloggers.
BRG, you should be careful. Lap dogs often have a bite far worse than their bark.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 12:42 PM
"Any good stories of late?"
- yes, Biff...do tell us some stories!
"BRG, you should be careful. Lap dogs often have a bite far worse than their bark."
- I would hope so! What's the point of having a little dog then?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 12:59 PM
This is the image I have of what the What looks like when (s)he leave the cave.
Posted by: 11233 at December 3, 2008 1:04 PM
BRG, I'm sure you've heard enough stories lately to last you for quite some time.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 1:04 PM
11233, that's what I was suggesting at 10:55.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 1:17 PM
"BRG, I'm sure you've heard enough stories lately to last you for quite some time."
Biff, I don't hear stories, I actually read them and occasionally write them.
I'm an avid reader, one can never get enough of a good story. I sometimes re-read ones I love.
Have you read anything interesting lately? That you would recommend.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 1:26 PM
I've not had a chance to read anything of interest today. Too busy fighting off the storm troopers. But I plan on settling in later on and hopefully finding something relaxing to peruse.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 1:45 PM
This lady is great.
She was probably really cute when she was young and all boys fought over her.
Posted by: sam at December 3, 2008 1:55 PM
Maybe some Proust?
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 3, 2008 1:58 PM
Maybe she was singing Connie Francis' "Where the Boys Are" when the pic was taken. But you're right, sam. I'm sure she wouldn't have given me the time of day way back when. Actually, she probably still wouldn't!

"I've not had a chance to read anything of interest today. Too busy fighting off the storm troopers. But I plan on settling in later on and hopefully finding something relaxing to peruse."
What are you thinking of picking up? Is it going to be a new read or a re-read?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 2:07 PM
Hopefully something new. I'll see if there's anything waiting for me at home.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 2:17 PM
Waiting?? What do you have an expansive library? Or do books just get delievered to your doorstep?
I wouldn't wait for any deliveries if I were you. Sure gas is cheap, but I hear that people are going to cut back on their delivery services!!
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 2:27 PM
I just call up or text them and one of them's likely to come over any night of the week to curl up with!!!
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 3, 2008 2:36 PM
DIBS, please give the information to Biff. By the looks of how his day is progressing, he might need it.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 2:45 PM
BRG, stop projecting. My day is going great. And if gas goes to $10 a gallon, it'll be perfect!
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 3:36 PM
Biff, don't antagonize (sp?) me. I'm getting really worked up here over the oil issue.
Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 3, 2008 4:18 PM
Sorry, but I'm just trying to get me massage through to you.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 4:33 PM
"my massage"
sheesh, the spelling is horrible today. I sounded Liverpudlian there.
Posted by: Biff Champion at December 3, 2008 4:45 PM
oh my...I can re-write that in so many ways.
btw - Thanks!!!!
