Tuscan Townhouses Have Risen

91-King-Street.jpg
91-king-rendering.jpgIn October, we showed you the rendering of the Radusky-designed townhouses at 91-99 King Street in Red Hook that were described as "inspired by Tuscan architecture." Well, behold them. And behold their listings: 93 to 99 are on the market (does that mean number 91 sold?) for $1.3 mill, boasting a roof deck, three stories and this description:

Exclusive loft style carriage houses encompass modern day living with old world charm. Sixteen foot ceilings and extra large windows allow airy natural light to fill this flowing space. The unique balance of a recycled brick façade and contemporary state-of-the-art finishes add to this unprecedented design. Enjoy the sunset over NY Harbor and Lady Liberty from your private terrace or roof deck.

More like Babylonia than Tuscany.

But rob, I think you liked the Horror Show Friday.

Hopefully the plywood will remain in place.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 11:42 AM

Snarky comment aside (11217 will be here soon to arbitrate), this is much. much better than the Horror Show Fedders buildings.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 11:43 AM

Agree Rob, these are actually not so bad. I have said before and I'll say it again, it reminds me of a scene in Romancing the Stone, where our heroine and hero enter a non-descript Columbian "lot"/home behind a metal fence and inside is this incredible home with a huge patio, fountains etc. At least the rendition reminds me of it.

Hmmmm... it actually doesn't look like the rendition is possible, given the proximity of the street to the home.

Posted by: Nokilissa at December 12, 2008 11:52 AM

i was thinking the same thing. the rendering of the building actually looks pretty accurate, but they took some liberties with the surroundings.

Posted by: z at December 12, 2008 11:55 AM

H-H-H-Hideous!

Posted by: BrooklynButler at December 12, 2008 12:00 PM

There's no fire hydrant, telephone pole or street signs in the rendering, and there's no cobblestone street in the photo.

Posted by: East New York at December 12, 2008 12:05 PM

Yup ENY, reality sucks!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 12:07 PM

ENY - true...but there's an ugly building in the rendering and an ugly building in reality.

The similarities are uncanny!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 12:08 PM

Nokilissa--exactly! They're very similar to mansions found throughout the middleast in some walled off compound, except they're usually constructed out of concrete block.

I still think they're pretty bad.

The surroundings in the rendering made me chuckle, too.

$650 per sqft

Posted by: deen at December 12, 2008 12:16 PM

There's a crazy building like this in Jackson Heights on 75th St. between 37th Ave. and Roosevelt. Really sticks out. It has not been fully rented since construction was finished around early 2007 or so. I always thought it was Mexican-style (or ancient Roman). In any case, they don't seem to use an architect or any blueprints. Just put in windows mathematically, like Fair Isle knitting patterns. I guess it could be worse. But it looks strange.

Posted by: mopar at December 12, 2008 12:24 PM

Babylonia.

LOL

What does it mean when a picture makes you want to cradle yourself and whimper softly in the corner?

Posted by: spnder at December 12, 2008 12:44 PM

this is directly across the street from the PJs.

Posted by: buckfast at December 12, 2008 12:54 PM

spnder, it means you may suffer from depression and should seek therapy and medical attention.

Posted by: z at December 12, 2008 1:07 PM

It's not so bad as a Fedders, but the "Tuscan" part reminds me of the "Tuscan-inspired" Fancy Feast cat food line. Dear olde Tuscany needs to tighten up their branding.

Posted by: Brenda from Flatbush at December 12, 2008 1:26 PM

Tuscan? Yeah... that reminds me of Florence

Posted by: GHB at December 12, 2008 2:04 PM

Fedderican.

***Bid half off peak comps***

Posted by: Brownstones Half Off at December 12, 2008 2:24 PM

What a total waste of material in our opinion. Very fugly facades that don't remind us of Tuscany at all, in fact the folks from Tuscany will be insulted.
Well at least it is probably better than what it replaced, sadly.

Posted by: pierre de taille at December 12, 2008 3:24 PM

I think the price is WAY off. They are across the street from the projects, and the block itself is still industrial with many empty lots which most likely will remain that way for a while considering the state of the economy. Half the price and I might go for it.

Posted by: katiem633 at December 12, 2008 6:11 PM

91 King Street is also listed, but for $750k instead of $1.3m. It's only one story instead of three, and about half the square footage.

Posted by: zinka at December 12, 2008 8:24 PM

1) there is no such thing as "airy natural light"

2) the projects across the street exude more grace

3) when will they stop inflicting such horrors on our community!?

i saw a rental ad on these pieces of crap on craigslist..there is no way they can sell them at the prices that they want....future welfare hotel
