Domino's Hits Myrtle Avenue

dominos-myrtle-avenue-brooklyn-1208.jpg
A new Domino's pizza has occupied what the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership folks say has been a vacant storefront for a long, long time, at 328 Myrtle Avenue between Carlton and Washington Park. They're hoping Domino's interest will attract other new businesses to the block, too. GMAP

Better than a Crown Fried Chicken???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 10:07 AM

or a Kennedy Fried Chicken.
I've never had Dimino's!

I haven't been on Myrtle in a while, about a year. Should go check out the changes.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 10:10 AM

fort greene, not downtown brooklyn.

Posted by: bklynbpr at December 12, 2008 10:14 AM

And we all know that there is NOTHING tacky or low class in downtown Brooklyn, bklynbpr.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 10:33 AM

isnt there a crown fried chicken a few doors down on the corner on carlton? If so some guy I know almost got killed by a bum there about a year ago. never push a bum.

Posted by: Santa at December 12, 2008 10:54 AM

I find Dominos in Brooklyn really wrong. In the land of great pizza, why would you order from an industrial food company. If you ever see them unload supplies from a huge semi from the midwest, it would become clear. There's a distribution center called Metroplex, that supplies many of the fast food chains. I don't enjoy Monsanto cheese and Dole tomato sauce. It's ok if you're stranded on the Jersey Turnpike in a blizzard and there's nothing else, but not in Brooklyn.

Posted by: Jebby at December 12, 2008 11:05 AM

I so agree with you Jebby. It is like eating at the Olive Garden, TGI Fridays or... what's that 'bloomin' onion' place? When you are surrounded by literally hundreds of arguably the best restaurants in the country? Don't get it. Never did, never will.

Posted by: Nokilissa at December 12, 2008 11:12 AM

the funny thing is that dominos pizza, the slice anyway? is so ridiculously overpriced to begin with it. i dont think ive had it in a long time. that was the kind of pizza we'd pick up in college along the highway in jersey.

*rob*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at December 12, 2008 11:24 AM

Nokilissa...that's Outback. There was one near me when I lived on the UES believe it or not. I LOVE the bloomin onion. And Outback has fantastic steaks and prime rib.

I think you're a pompous elitist. :)

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 11:24 AM

You're right, you're right, I know you're right.

Posted by: Nokilissa at December 12, 2008 11:47 AM

mmmmmm, i could use a big helping of cinna stix with a side of sugar paste.

Posted by: z at December 12, 2008 11:49 AM

DIBS - you have lost all credibility if you really are trying to sell the notion that "Outback has fantastic steaks" -

I mean if you want to say passable, or even good - maybe, but "fantastic" - please

Posted by: fsrg at December 12, 2008 11:53 AM

I thought he was kidding fsrg. Kidding, right DIBS?

Posted by: Nokilissa at December 12, 2008 12:02 PM

fsrq...the one on 55th street is very good. The prime rib is as good as Smith & Wollensky's. Maybe its a better one than elsewhere in the country. I've never been to any other one.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 12:03 PM

I can't say with certainty regarding the Prime Rib (which no offense is hardly a cut worthy of eating at a Steakhouse) but I have eaten at Outback and while the (100% fat) sides like the Blooming onion are good (of course they are - they are 100% fat) the Steak is one step above Tads - and not all that cheap.

oh and BTW - all Outbacks will taste more or less the same since they all get their meat from the same warehouse and all cook them the same according to the corporate "binder" - thats the business model

Posted by: fsrg at December 12, 2008 12:15 PM

Prime Rib...dripping blood it's so rare, is the best there is!!!! However a NY strip, at the same level of rareness is what life is all about.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 12:22 PM

"And Outback has fantastic steaks and prime rib."

He's from Philadelphia.

Posted by: East New York at December 12, 2008 12:38 PM

I'm actually from NY. And I lived most of my adul;t life in Chicago where the steaks are better than in NYC. Gene & Georgetti's anyone???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 12:53 PM

"I'm actually from NY."

Oh...then you should KNOW better.

Posted by: East New York at December 12, 2008 2:14 PM

I'm actually used to go there because there were a lot of different sports programs on the myltitude of TVs in the bar...and of course for the bloomin' onion!!!! The prime rib is way above the level of a Tad's or any other chain. And yes, I was surprised by that. The last point I should have added in my first post.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 2:30 PM

Bad spelling day. Out much too late last night.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 2:34 PM

Stay on Topic, people!!!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 4:05 PM

I'm from NYC and I gotta agree with Dave. The prime rib at that Outback (55th) is pretty darn amazing. I haven't had it at any other Outback either. However, I have had it at Smith & Wollensky's and I prefer Outbacks! I like mine with the mushroom side though.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at December 12, 2008 4:24 PM

Surprised anyone else has been there. I haven't been there since 2006 though....moved to Brooklyn in early 2007.

Always with mushrooms on the side and a baked potato with extra sour cream.

Who's got a good prime rib in Brooklyn other than Luger's?

I get a pretty damn good steak tartare at Jolie on Atlantic. The best though is Les Halles

^^sorry I went off topic.

How's this:
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie
That's amore

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 5:29 PM

BRG, do you have any Italian in you?

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 12, 2008 5:31 PM

Biff, I don't understand your question.

-Am I part Italian?
I am Mediterranean, but won't say from where.
- Have I had Italian food recently and it's still in my stomach?
I haven't had Italian food in a while

What's your point?
Please stay on top - Pizza did not originate in Italy!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 5:44 PM

Ok ok, no need for you to have a hairy. Instead of talking about pies, I'll ask the following: what are your thoughts on the Outback beef?

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 12, 2008 5:50 PM

I had a sudden urge to listen to Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and put it on. Going to scram once it's over.

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 12, 2008 5:57 PM

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This song makes me think of Bay Ridge for some reason, and I've only been there twice in my life.

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 12, 2008 5:57 PM

I never have a hairy.
I've never had the beef at Outback.
I was Outback once. It was Okay, I'm into places like that.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 5:58 PM

I see a major unintentional slip in my 5:44 post....YIKES!!!!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 6:00 PM

"I was Outback once. It was Okay, I'm into places like that."

Meant to say, I'm NOT into places like that.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 6:01 PM

That was unintentional? I thought for sure it was on purpose.

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 12, 2008 6:02 PM

Oh, I thought you meant the part about staying on top (versus on topic)...

Ok, done...see y'all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Monday.

Posted by: Biff Champion at December 12, 2008 6:04 PM

NO, biff, that was unintentional!

Did Cobble figure out yesterday's twist of words from me? Did you? I doubt anyone can.
There was another one, yesterday, regarding your lunch...let's see if you're that smart....or anybody for that matter.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at December 12, 2008 6:05 PM

I used to work over there on 52nd & 3rd back in 2005(?) so sometimes we'd go for lunch.

Which Les Halles? The one on 28th and Park or on John? I go to the one on John, never ordered the Prime Rib but now I'll make it a point to.

Haven't had any in Brooklyn worth mentioning. Not bad mind you, just none I'd recommend.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at December 12, 2008 6:06 PM

Darn you Dave for bringing this up...I bought a whole Filet Mignon yesterday to make individual Beef Wellington's for Christmas dinner but now I want to change it and make Prime Rib!

Posted by: TownhouseLady at December 12, 2008 6:11 PM

THL....no, Les halles does not have prime rib. I've only gone to the one on Park....but I was talking about the steak tartare there, which is the best in the city.

THL....i don't do prime rib at home because it is never as good as at a restaurant. Stick with the Wellingtons.

I'm doing lobster pot pies.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at December 12, 2008 7:29 PM

Ah, got it. Thnx.

The pot pies sound delish, enjoy.

Posted by: TownhouseLady at December 13, 2008 10:05 AM

and just to keep on topic...

I think we can all agree that you don't order Domino's when you want Pizza. Same as you don't order McDonald's when you want a burger.

When you crave a big Mac you don't want a juicy homemade from the Bar-B-Que burger- you want a big Mac. Same is true for Domino's it's fast food and a specific craving.

Now if I could convincing my friends in the south that Dominos, Papa John's and CiCi's are not really "pizza" I'd be making some serious progress!
