Sterling Green Goes Digital

Sterling Green, the eco-friendly condo project on the Prospect Heights/Crown Heights border, not only has a completed facade, but a Web site and a Facebook page. There seem to be some deals for the digitally-inclined, including at $1,000 discount for those who become a "fan" of the project on Facebook and purchase a unit there; probably worth the trouble of a click for that. Great green stuff includes wind-powered common spaces, tankless hot water heaters, cabinets made from sustainable wood, etc, and bike storage as well, to encourage the green lifestyle. Prices start at $299,000 for an alcove studio with outdoor space. How's that sound? GMAP

From my research. tankless hot water heaters are not as efficient for notmal everyday usage. Where's the windmill to power the common spaces? Or are the windows just left open.

What would the design police say?

$299 for an alcove studio on the Crown Heights side of Washington Ave sounds like highway robbery, to me, green or no green. Then again, it's pretty rare to see ANYTHING in the sub-300 range these days.

This building is depressing. I'd hate to live next door. Balconies used for bike storage do not make for a "green" building. This all seems like the worst level of building, hiding behind lame trying-to-be-hip and trying-to-be-green marketing.

STERLING GREEN IS MADE FROM PEOPLE.

How much ugliness can we look at today on brownstoner?

STOP THE BALCONY MADNESS. Worse than fedders, worse than recessed lighting, worse than exposed brick. STOP THE BALCONY MADNESS.

O Fjorder, Fjorder wherefore art thou Fjorder?

at least thos balconies can fit a whole person, that's not bad. better than the glorified flower boxes that are being passed off ass balconies these days

"ass balconies"...Freudian Slip Rob? Balconies so small you can just squeeze your ass on it.

Yeah, if it's so green, why not get LEED certification? I agree w DIBS, sounds like wind-powered common spaces means something silly.

It doesn't make economic sense for such a small building to go after LEED. By the time they hire a consultant, even if NYSERDA pays them back via a grant, and do all the paperwork, even the reduced work required for LEED for Homes, it is still way too much work just for a plaque.
People who care about green should be able to see the smart green choices this developer made without needing the LEED branding.
Great infill project, and green at a decent price point. Nice work.

small scale wind power on top of buildings in cities doesn't work. anyone who says otherwise is full of bologna.
