Four Years and 25,000 Posts Later

launch-post-1208.jpg
If our calculations are correct, this should be the 25,000th post on Brownstoner since the standalone site launched almost four years ago in January 2005. (We published at brownstoner.blogspot.com for three months before that.) This tally includes 10,730 posts on the home page; 13,285 posts on The Forum (initially called "Services" when the current site launched); 120 posts in the recently-added Restaurants section; and 865 posts in the various Renovation Blogs, including 192 in the original reno blog of our house.

I lift my virtual champagne flute to you, Mr. B.

You've taken a small, personal blog and grown it into a viable business empire. In the process, you've given a voice to a lot of us, educated us, pissed us off occasionally, and most importantly, turned a lot of various and sundry people who would never have met or dealt with each other in any fashion, into a community. This site is a part of my life, and I look forward to coming here. Many congratulations to you, and your staff.

your site freed me from living in insane asylum of of a shared apartment in harlem, and for that, i thank you.

*rob*

ps. not that there is anything wrong with harlem itself.. (im talking INSIDE the apartment! imagine living in The Real World meets Girl Interupted.

Congratulations! It's an invaluable town square, even if there are a few lunatics howling and wearing "The End is Near" sandwich boards.

Congrats Mr. B - I'm a newcomer to the site but it's really helped me learn a lot about Brooklyn real estate in a very short time!

Also, the flea and the holiday market are pretty cool too.

Congrats.

It may be fitting that I tried posting a congratulations message and got a posting error. So forgive the double posting, if it occurs.

I wish I had found you at the beginning. A lot of the advice I now post I could have used back then. As of the date of your launch, we had just ratcheted up our demand that the escrow agent confirm that the deposit was still intact and in the right place (and allay our suspicions to the contrary). He eventually did. We had also just learned that the seller had shut the heat off (more accurately, failed to pay Keyspan, who removed the meter and cut off service) but left the water on, so that a pipe burst causing massive amounts of water damage. So yeah, we could have used the collective wisdom of the Brownstoner community then.

Anyway, despite some of the sideshows, there is great value here and lots of people have benefitted. Keep it up and I am looking forward to the next party.

Mr. B;

Even though I am sometimes critical of the stuff you post, I would like you to know that I enjoy your site. Congratulations, and much continued success.

Wow. Four years already. Back then I was caught up in the frenzy, bidding on properties in Bed Stuy before an older wise man told me, "What goes up, must come down". Then I did some digging and discovered the MAB. What a run so far. Kudos.

Very Cool Mr. B! I'm surprised it's been 4 years already. I visit your site daily. It's become a morning ritual with my first cup of coffee. I've met many homeowners through your site too. Thanks for the great work!

I love the "frank but courteous" rule of thumb!

Congratulations. Sounds ridiculous, like the town wolf crier at this point, but I hope we're genuine Brownstone Brooklynites at some point in the next decade!
Thank you for a wonderfully entertaining and informational site.

Brownstoner:

I guess in the new world, benchmarks are measured in postings rather than anniversaries. In any case, kudos!

I've enjoyed checking this site every day, wherever I may be, for the past year or so. It's become as regular a habit as nytimes.com!

And from what I read here, I've learned Brooklyn is different from the days when I grew up there in the 1950's -- but not that different. Opinionated. Cranky. Hilarious. And with all its great neighborhoods, a terrific place to live.

It's been fun to reminisce in your pages. And especially satisfying to learn about all the positive changes in my old neighborhood, Crown Heights.

Thanks.

I was entering my gate when two women walking past were talking about the site. One lady told the other to go on brownstoner.com and she would find some references. That was over 2 years ago and I have visited daily ever since.I love that it is so educational and appreciate the shared wealth.Congrats.
