Development Watch: Best Western Hits 4th Avenue

Let's hope Brooklyn continues to grow as a tourist destination. The transformation from street of auto shops (see old building on right) to street of accommodations continues. Yet another hotel is going up, this one a Best Western at 764 4th Avenue, on the corner of 26th. The news came from a tipster who spotted the announcement on the Marshall Management Web site. The new building permit, filed in November of 07, calls for a 10-story building. Recently there's been some excavation, and the day we went by things were in full swing. GMAP P*Shark DOB

Wow.
Would work for tourists too since it is right on top of a subway stop, 30 minutes downtown, 45 to midtown.

"Would work for tourists too"
Um, while I am a fan of the parts of the neighborhood UP the hill and Green-Wood, who in their right mind would stay at a Best Western in Brooklyn as a tourist going to Manhattan?
I forsee a SRO or Section 8 housing in 5 years. Great addition to the "Park Avenue" of Brooklyn.

Lisa, the photo of the "old" gas station is incorrect. It was a Exxon (or the like) with a car wash...had been boarded up for years prior to the demo. The photo you have is ON 26th St.
Forgot to post earlier...
And yes Rob, I am a SRO snob, having lived in several converted SROs in Ft. Greene in an earlier life.
Now I'm just house proud.

Should be handy for patrons of the hooker stroll and porn shops around the corner on 3rd Ave. I wonder what the half-hourly rate will be?

As a homeowner living around the corner on 28th Street (and a landlord who rents the top floor to young professionals) hopefully this hotel will be able to serve as a place for friends and family to stay when they are in town. It's a perfect spot for all of us to use for that purpose without breaking the bank.
If we fill it up with customers there won't be any need for the owners to resort to marketing a 1/2 hr rate. ;)
