Closing Bell: Working on Christmas

432-Classon-Avenue-1208.jpg
Bodega employees weren't the only ones without a day off yesterday: This guy was working away at 432 Classon Avenue when we drove by around 3 p.m. Better hurry: We hear those newly-built places on Classon are just flying off the shelf. GMAP

Ah,he had to work? I have seen everything in my years but I have to admit I have never seen anyone working construction on Christmas Day. Truly a first. Hope he left early and got home in time for dinner or at least dessert. Bah humbug!!!!!

Idigo,

Want to bet that worker is Muslim and doesn't give a rat's ass about Christmas?

He probably needs the money and couldn't afford to take the day off.

What's wrong with letting a guy work who wants to?

Inigo + keyboard = thoughtless comment

the muslims I know respect christmas, jesus is a prophet in islam. the hassids don't give a rat's ass about anything or anyone outside their community. they are mean people. sorry, that's how I feel. actuallly they mistreat people even within their own community, especially women and -god forbid- gays.

I think this building is OK. In proportion, good location, replaces a vacant overgrown lot. Man he built it fast. It's not a brownstone but considering some of the horror shows that have been built close by...

ghb, my comments were not hateful but yours are.

if you live in a mixed hasidic community- than you will realize that Inigo is not a stupid, ignorant bastard...but accurate and straight forward with his comments. The Hasidics to the most part are not good neighbors- tearing down trees- destroying front yards/ back yards, manipulating state agencies by not filing permit variances for afterhours construction. It is the oddball or freak in the Haisidic community..that reflects on how their construction impacts their neighbors or community. The Hasidic have a strong understanding of the NYC bureaucracies and know what they can illegally get away with...like extending balconies without permits. They don't give a damn about the immigrant families they are displacing in Bedstuy, they don't give a damn about the community. Their hideous buildings are a blight on the community. I would take a rotting, hundred year old frame house any day over one of their cinderblock fortresses.

"the muslims I know respect christmas, jesus is a prophet in islam"
