Breaking Ground on a New South Slope Karl

1834-8th-1208.jpg
1834-8th-rendering-1208.jpgIMBY, a blog chronicling development in the South Slope, has this report on a new Karl Fischer building at 1638 8th Avenue: "Yes, Prospect Terrace is actively breaking ground. Yes, assorted foundation work is still in progress. Someday, it will look just like this..." From the two-year-old photos on the site, looks like many delays have held the project back. Seems pretty humble at three stories compared to some other South Slope offerings. GMAP

Keep this in mind. It'll be a good candidate for Horror Show Friday if it ever gets built. Don't hold your breath.

I love the stroller in the mock up!

DIBS - you think so? I actually don't hate that rendering. The rounded corners are kind of nice.

Course, the rendering and the real thing may have nothing to do with each other.

And yeh, Ruska, I love the nod to the stroller population of Park Slope. :)

Curious if some neighbors know the story. Supposedly, there is a bridle path between the rear yards of the side streets that is owned as part of this development property. Earlier plans called for the building to extend way back down the block behind the backyards of many houses, and have a driveway and parking beyond that. Is that still the plan?

that stroller pusher dad in the rendering is so beyond white, he's clear. :-/

My god, I believe you are right, Rob. Its a dad, and he's incandescent.

karl is a butcher, how I loathe his work.

I like the rounded corners too. Reminds me of a puffer fish.

*rob* Actually that's me in the photo and I, or my kind, actually prefer to be called "Trans-luscent". Not completely luscent neither opaque.

Here's a link to the other renderings.
Slopefarm there will be several attached row houses positioned perpendicular to 8th avenue with a connecting walkway in front. The word "mews" comes to mind. The property is pretty odd. It extends almost all the to 7th Ave where it hits another development site... 379 Prospect Ave. "Prospect Views". I don't think they are related.

Most people in WT remember the lot as where the heating oil company parked their trucks. Some old timers in the nabe say that's were they would buy ice blocks before there was refridgeration.
