Coming Soon: Brooklyn Larder
Grub Street reports that the owners of Franny's "plan to open a gourmet shop down the street called the Brooklyn Larder in March 2009. In addition to a full kitchen... to prepare and package everything from sandwiches and lasagne to fried chicken for takeout or casual counter-noshing, the shop will stock the house-cured meats also found at Franny’s, as well as an international brigade of small-production cheeses and a hodgepodge of condiments and other foodstuffs."
Opening Dates Announced: Morton's and Brooklyn Bowl
According to the Brooklyn Paper, Morton’s the Steakhouse is set to open at 333 Adams Street (between Willoughby and Tillary streets) in Downtown Brooklyn on November 21. And Grub Street says that Brooklyn Bowl owner Peter Shapiro is "aiming to open his 20,000-square-foot concert space cum bowling alley cum Blue Ribbon outpost on Barack Obama's Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009."

Creative Cooks on Atlantic Avenue is offering a class for 5-10 year olds: "Students will learn to prepare traditional Chinese dishes and learn the basics of conversational Chinese in our kitchen classroom. This class includes two field trips to Brooklyn Chinatown... [Classes] will begin on Sunday, January 2nd from 10–11:30 and run for 8 consecutive Sundays. Cost is $450/child and 20% sibling discount is available."

Eat It: The Brooklyn Food Blog says: "Teeda Thai makes a really good Pad Thai, with fresh and crunchy bean sprouts, thin slices of red cabbage and carrots, and lots of chunks of Tofu. The sauce is light, flavorful and slightly sweet, with chopped peanuts and plenty of noodles - perfection!"
Last Chance for Pit Stop?
We've always been fans of the Grand Prix-themed French bistro, Pit Stop, at 127 Columbia Street (near Kane Street), but Chowhound Carol Gardens says, "I got an email from Pit Stop a few weeks back that said that they will be CLOSING for the winter." Does this mean they're closing for good?

The Brooklyn Paper reports that Water Street Restaurant and Lounge in Dumbo has opened a raw bar run by chef Marc Elliot, whom some of you may remember as the chef at Cobble Hill's now-closed Whim and Blue Star... Eater says that Delicious on the Slope as reopened after renovations... Little Piggy (Market), which was adjacent to the Smoke Joint, has been converted into a "small, rustic" bourbon bar called the Pig, says Time Out New York... yes, on bergen between flatbush and 5th, by organic heights, toys in babeland, private stock, etc.

I'm the one who posted on Chowhound. I don't have the Pit Stop email anymore, but it said it was JUST closing for winter and would reopen in the spring. Perhaps you might call or email for specifics. Their website has not changed to reflect this.

I love Franny but guys give us a break 12-17 pizza that feeds one. Appetizers upward of $15 -$17 bucks, $4 for a bottle of soda. Took my wife and child there, $100 without dessert or drinks. Thats just pure crazy. Better served to go to local pizza shop

Brooklyn Larder is located on Flatbush Avenue, not on Bergen as previosly reported, 228 Flatbush to be exact. lets hop that Franny doesnt exactly work the shop. Her sour puss is anything but greatful when you go into Franny's for one of those over priced "pizza". Franny is there most days and will never talk to regular customers unless they are a personal friend of hers. I was in there with family and friends and $230 later I wasnt satisfied with just a pizza for dinner. A note to you, Franny, wipe the sourpuss off your face and be nice to everyone, if you want repeat customers.
