Who'd have thought DOW8000 was too optimisitc a moniker?

Am I the only one who think what Bloomberg is saying makes sense? He's trying to tighten the city's belt and make those tough decisions on what to cut. In response, he gets a bunch of baloney from people who seemed to have learned not one single thing from the crash. Here's the message - spending money you haven't got and buying things you don't actually need is not currently a good idea.

They'll be voting in a mayor who soothingly promises it will all be great and things are ok... .. like an episode of the Simpsons.

If you read the whole NYT article about the mayor, he's the only one who sounds rational, logical and aware of what the reality truly is.

ditto...Is there anyone who could beat him? The election isn't until Nov, 2009, correct? Lots can change between now and then.

Not in such a bad mood today Rob?

Dave - plenty of people have said they will vote against Bloomers - but i agree - who are they going to vote for?
Weiner? Barron? Quinn ("we'll get these checks out as fast as possible" - just the kind of calm level headedness we need now..).

I don't see any serious contenders.

Posted by: dittoburg at November 20, 2008 9:11 AM

I think Bloomie must have made some kind of deal with Quinn t get her to support the lifting of term limits. I don't see any serious contenders either.

i dont understand bloomberg at all. isnt he like a multi-billionaire?! why would he want the responsibility of running a city? if you had that much money wouldnt you um, i dont know, be out enjoying it? i sure as hell would not be working, and especially not such a ridiculously hard job of being a city mayor. there's something wrong in that frog-faced guys head.

power

Posted by: dittoburg at November 20, 2008 9:24 AM

First of all, he does it because he wants to. He wasn't roped into it. There's certainly an altruistic motive here but of course there's also the ego and the power that comes with it. And, he has higher aspirations. I'd rather have someone at the helm that had some business sense then one of those dick wad, career politicians that the council and the rest of the city is full of.

Not really sure what hifgher aspirations he has though. A Senate job would be too boring for him. Governor?? Not unleess there's a see-change and all those idiots get voted out of Albany. There's no way someone like him would ever deal with asshole Sheldon Silver on a daily basis. And finally, no one from NYC will ever get elected president.

but you only live once. once youre dead youre dead and you cant enjoy your life anymore anyway. power, my butt. does he seriously think anyone is impressed?! i think im going to write him a letter today expressing how much i think he's wasting his life away.

I think he'll take that under careful consideration rob.

"Who'd have thought DOW8000 was too optimisitc a moniker?"

Me. I knew housing created the floor in 2003. Nasdaq's demise was supposed to take us lower. But I thought, ahhh, another bubble (alternative fuels?) would restart the cycle. Uh oh! Where's that next bubble?

"A new study shows many New York City cyclists ignore traffic and helmet laws."

Apparently there's another study about to be released that concluded the temperature drops in the winter and rises in the summer. Way to go, Hunter College!

Bloomberg for president!

Congratulations to Principal Seth Phillips and the entire PS 8 community! You deserve the accolades, and you certainly don't deserve the excrement the DoE heaped upon you last spring. Way to go!

(I like the red lines, too. Purty.)
