When the Waterfalls was dismantled we discussed it here on brownstoner and immediately concluded that the dollar amount of the economic benefit was suspect. I hope they subtracted the amount of money they spent on the research from the total benefit.

Regarding the commuter tax...

I already pay almost $300 a month to get to work everyday. I shop and eat in the city every week and try to contribute to the city as much as possible.

Why is the answer always to tax the commuters?

skinny...because they don'y have a say in electing the tax implementers!!! Beating the "No taxation without representation" hurdle for a politician is like Christmas come early. Politics 101.

but they do have a say and they do vote for the folks that rescinded the 'commuter tax'. The New York State legislature.
New York State depends on income tax and taxes people who work in NY but live in NJ. NYC also depends on income tax but NYS legislature no longer allows it to impose income tax on non-residents.
