Fulton Street Dig: End In Sight
The seemingly-unending repair of Fulton Street in Clinton Hill (ongoing since 2006) has taken a heavy toll on the commercial stretch. While Myrtle and Dekalb Avenues have flourished in recent years, Fulton has struggled. The end is in sight though: Work is scheduled to be completed by December, according to DDC, 11 months late.

This is going to be huge for the area. The city looks like it is putting some care into the job. I hope that it will be completed to a high standard. There are good quality vacant retail spaces along this road that become viable once the works are complete. I feel very sorry for the struggling business on that stretch, and those that have stuck it out deserved to be rewarded by higher foot traffic. Fulton can't be hurt by the addition of some more retail and with this unsightly road works finished I think entrepreneurs are going to jump into some interesting businesses along there and the selling of drugs may move elsewhere or at least decrease. Many who currently choose to walk along Gates may change to Fulton.

I think it may been even more overdue than 11 months, but in any event, I'm happy to see it coming to a conclusion.
Does anyone know if there are plans for more street trees. On the sections of sidewalk they've replaced thus far, they have not put in any new tree pits (though they could do the a**backward approach and cut holes to create new tree pits).
Now would be the time to plant the trees, though if they wait too much longer, we'll have to hold out until spring...

Hallelujah. I hope Fulton is running two-way again before the end of the year. Two observations:
The Washington Mutual space (between Sister's Hardware and Embora) is "For Lease By Owner" -- goodness, this is a huge space in a gorgeous building by a busy intersection, and someone ought to do something great with that space. How do I pitch it to the Ft Greene / Clinton Hill food co-op people?
Anyone else notice "CHOICE ATLANTIC" opening on Atlantic Ave between Grand and Classon!?

So they have their sign up at the new Choice location? Great. Thierry told me it would open this fall and would have a huge kitchen with a small area up front to buy food and/or sit down to eat etc.
Is is the place with the maroon awning on the north side of the street?

Finally!!!! Fulton retail is long overdue, not sure why there's no eastablishments on Fulton. Finally there a new Bakery on Fulton off the corner of Grand Av. Fulton has everything in place, the subway, foot traffic and should be the center of Clinton Hill.

bk8--truer words have never been spoken. Fulton should be the "Main" street of southeastern Clinton Hill.

Fulton is the future! wait and see it, :-) I hope so, so much potentials here, I also agree that the WAMU space could be great for the upcoming coop, I find it to be the only space that I can think of in the hood that could have such of biz, anyway, glad that we are closed to the end of noisy years!
