Closing Bell: Canarsie, Circa 1980, on Flickr

Ah, the wonders of Flickr. We came across these photographic relics of an earlier Brooklyn: Canarise, 1980-81. Great hairdos, great buildings and the same popular Brooklyn logo. The photographer is gbSk.

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've got him on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

P.S. Great photo of Epstein.

What a flashback!
I might have dated one of these guys.
And I def. looked like one of those girls with the big teased hair.
Except I was living it in the mid to late 80's.

I LOVE THESE PICTURES!!!
Mr. B....Can you do a flashback moment once a week.

Who wants to go to disco dancing?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 4:17 PM

i do i do!!!

Posted by: PitbullNYC at November 25, 2008 4:18 PM

Lisa, come clean. These pictures were taken in Bay Ridge during your lunch break today, right?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 25, 2008 4:20 PM

The lead picture is clearly not from 1981 - the car is a much later model and I dont think the GPS stick-em on the winshield does not look like it was designed for a circa 1980 "fuzz-buster"

BIFF!!!!!!!!!!!
Back off of my nabe.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 4:23 PM

Are there any more roller rinks around?
I want to go. There used to be a place between bay ridge and bensonhurst that I used to go to.
I used to have roller skates with pink pom poms.

Rob, I used to know how to hustle (the dance)as in the actual dance setps you do to disco music. With open arm positions and turns and twirls. I'm sure I can pick it up again.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 4:29 PM

im actually have my sweet sixteen x 2 party this year at a either a rollerdisco (if i can find one) or an ice skating rink. if anyone wants to come they are more than welcome to come. i dont think paris is coming tho :(

"Back off of my nabe."

Or what, you'll choke me with the fuzzy dice hanging on the rear view mirror of your Z28?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 25, 2008 4:34 PM

Rob, what about Dreamland?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 25, 2008 4:37 PM

the fuzzy dice are too good to be put around the neck of your kind.

Go back to sleep in your shallow, personality deprived neighborhood. Go roam the aisles of the new Gristedes that just opened up in your hood, while we in the south have fun cruising 86th street.

"Go roam the aisles of the new Gristedes that just opened up in your hood"

I already did that and might I say that I was pleasantly surprised to see the shelves stocked with fresh, clean items and experience the cheerful and polite service on Friday morning.

It was all going so well until some out-of-town tart with a Bay Ridge accent threw a hissy fit when she couldn't find any Aqua Net Hairspray and had to be forcibly removed by two very kind octogenarians who just happened to be wandering around the store looking for the toilet paper section.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 25, 2008 4:50 PM

Yeah, Biff...tell us where you go on the weekends roller skating. Dressed in skin tight polyester pants, unbuttoned shirt and gold chains. Do you gel your hair back?

Rob, how do you think the skaters learn all their funkiest moves? It's by trying to avoid the gunfire!

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 25, 2008 4:56 PM

:(

Dear Dreamland Skaters,

Coney Island is a seasonal land of amusements. Hence Dreamland Roller Rink will be closed for the winter.

Details of re-opening to be announced. Please join our email list for updates!

South Shore High School - now called South Shore Educational Complex (or something).

Called "Stab Shore" back in the day, so I'm told from someone.

I used to work right across the street.

Biff, The old age community you reside in has really affected your mind, if you think Bay Ridge is out-of-town.
You're right about the tart!
Are you speaking as a hart?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 5:01 PM

well if anyone can suggest a good venue for a sweet sixteen party for a gay 32 year old man, id love any input.

"Googling "bayridgegirl+skate+rental+attendant"

Biff, wouldn't you love to google that??? But I don't think your fingers could manage the pluses.

Now ef, off....spoken like a tart!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 5:07 PM

I consider everything south of Red Hook as being out of town.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 25, 2008 5:11 PM

'I consider everything south of Red Hook as being out of town.'

I consider you as out of touch.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 5:16 PM

Shows how little you know, BRG. I just googled it and your picture immediately came up. You didn't even take the Aqua Net off the table!

Biff...I thrusted you with my identity...and you betrayed me!!!!

You want to play this game....did you find the mushy food?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 5:22 PM

No, given it was the grand opening and in Brooklyn Heights, the mushy food was flying off the shelves. However, I did happen to find this adorable toy that reminded me of you...a rollerskating troll with big, colorful hair.

Rob,
What about having a bowling party?
Ice Skating: Central Park - Wollman's rink & Chelsea Piers has an ice skating rink.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 5:38 PM

It must have been an exhausting opening ceremony....fighting for mushy food and depends. Did you go home and relax?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 5:41 PM

Sure I got to relax, but I heard you had an exhausting weekend getting your family portrait done with your Uncle Phil.

I think you should have a great weekend...try roller skating....put your best outfit on, go out in your nabe and bring some life to that drowsy community....bring it south style.

Ok, BRG, since you're obviously trying to extend the olive branch, I'll no longer tease you about your hair (pun intended). And I'll go even further and congratulate you on having your kitchen featured last month in Bay Ridge Bath and Homes magazine. What oven is that, by the way? I'm not sure I've seen it before...

Don't you need to get to BH before the early bird special runs out.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 25, 2008 6:06 PM

And honey, you will never see my oven.

I'll admit I used to tease my hair, but it's very tame now.

Why are you such an uptight ass, man!!
Relax and let your hair down.

quizzote:
Rob,
What about having a bowling party?
not a bad idea really. tho last year i was on a gay bowling team at the bowling alley in port authority. i sucked SO bad and my own teammates (and my bf at the time!) turned against me. i truly believe to this day he dumped me cuz i sucked at bowling. tho every once in a while i would SHOCK everyone with a strike! that bowling alley has such ridiculous rules these days tho.
