Brooklyn Is the New Hollywood

filming-1108.jpg Apparently the hottest words on producers lips are "on location in Brooklyn," reports the NY Daily News. What makes us so special? A little bit of everything: cobblestone streets, brownstones, Orthodox Jews, Russians, Chinese and West Indians. Besides the Brooklyn Bridge, folks have filmed Brooklyn College as Yale and Pratt as Harvard.

I heard they filmed some streets in Bed Stuy as Georgetown and Boston.

hmmm iffy. films and videos and tv shows have always filmed in various places in brooklyn. it just sounds like typical brooklyn tooting its own horn again.

Williamsburg Bridge as GWB (American Gangster). Brooklyn Armory in Bed Stuy as Boston warehouse (Departed. Also Bronx Golf Center near Co-op City, scene with Baldwin and DiCaprio).

Hollyhood!

It would be nice (and less annoying to us residents) if the city would charge productions for their film permits. It would put alot of $$ in the city coffers and they wouldn't have to raise our property taxes 7%!

Brooklyn Is hot. The "What" is not.

I love watching movies shot in NYC. I pay attention more to the streetscapes than I do the movie.
Recently in Bay Ridge, a movie with Bette Midler was shot, don't know the name.
Also shot in Bay Ridge, Saturday Night Fever. Alot of scenes where shot there. I wish I was around to have seen John Travolta walking down the street carrying that paint can.

Travolta is mad gay. That dude has been in the closet for years. Why do you think he's boyz with Cruise & is into Scientology. Scientology exists for the sake of gay men in Hollywood to hide in the closet

PropJoe...couldn't you weave something about Sephardic Jews into that??

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 17, 2008 11:57 AM

Excuse me, Baldwin and Damon.

Posted by: DOW8000SP800 at November 17, 2008 12:53 PM

daveinbedstuy - well, from all accounts, PropJoe is 100% correct.

Posted by: wine lover at November 17, 2008 2:14 PM

Baldwin & Damon? What are you referring to?

Posted by: PropJoe at November 17, 2008 2:44 PM

ppark - if they charged these productions the productions would go elsewhere. the reason they're here is bloomberg's huge tax incentives. and the reason he gives tax incentives is they're more than made up with the jobs these productions create.

See me @ 11:16, PropJoe. Correcting my casting error (Departed).

also the Park Grille in Wburg/Greenpoint for a spa (corner store) in Southie. That had me chuckling. Haven't been to Southie in years, but feel confident the hipsters would all still get their a**es kicked if they tried strolling around there.

I agree that this is nothing new. It's common knowledge that parts of "Debbie Does Dallas" were filmed at Pratt.

what's happening to that darren star show "park slope"? or was that just a bad joke?
