A Little Castle in South Slope/Greenwood Heights

my-little-castle-1108.jpg
There's plenty of creative architecture in the un-landmarked wilds of Greenwood Heights and South Slope (this one is just north of the Prospect Expressway, for those of you who are serious and certain about neighborhood boundaries). Someone has very lovingly altered their facade and added domed awnings reading "My Little Castle" on this 8th Avenue multi-family home (looks like there's a corset company operating there called Veritée Hill). Looks from Property Shark like the mortgage was satisfied back in 2002 and they're free to decoratively stucco (not sure that's the material) as they see fit. Say what you will about it, it's nice to see homeowners taking pride in their properties; see the rusty drips from the window sills next door. GMAP

Looks like a Japanese "Love Hotel."

Looks more like "My Little Tacky Italian Banquet Hall". I wonder if the owners feel like they're going to a wedding every time they go home.

The MLC over each smaller window awning is a nice touch. Glad that someone is loving this building. It's not what I would do, but I'm glad that someone is proud of their property.

To paraphrase Chrisopher Walken: “Guess what?! I've got a fever, and the only prescription... is more stucco!”

Anyone serious and certain about their neighborhood boundaries is going to be flummoxed by the south end of 8th Ave. below Windsor. Definitely not the Slope. North of the highway, so can't be Greenwood Heights. Windsor Terrace might creep across PPW depending on the block, but I can't see the WT people owning 8th Ave itself. Park Terrace anyone? Although judging by the picture, this could be extreme northwest Bensonhurst.

This is very confectionery looking to me. I may have to bake some cookies now. I'm craving something with pink and white sugary icing.

'this 8th Avenue multi-family home'

Renting rooms by the hour.

'There's plenty of creative architecture in the wild'
Lisa, you're going to bring out the architectural critic in my with that comment.

Corsets to the left of me,
Power to the right, here I am,
Stucco the middle with you.

BRG, looks like they closed the zoo today after all.
I hope the giant baboon will be ok!

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 24, 2008 11:23 AM

I called it at one hour and 45 minutes.
We were harmless in there. I was waiting for 'what' to propose to me though. I'm disappointed. I thought he and I could set up our own 'little castle' somewhere in Lodi.

'What' could take his rantings to the 'Links'. They have the NYT article about Citi there. So it'll be fair game.

BTW - I hate these awnings!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 24, 2008 11:34 AM

Indeed you did. So what is next? You predicted Citi shares would rise, the Forum post would come down. If one is to believe things happen in threes, what is next?

The only castle in Lodi is the White Castle.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 24, 2008 11:41 AM

Biff, I have a few other predictions. But my 'intentions' of sharing them.

The 'what' is livid right now his post got canned, but we can still post on the 'supra timberland mauri dunk jordans nikes' thread. He's looking for pictures of sneakers with mushroom clouds coming out of them.

I suggest you get awnings for your house and give it a snazzy name....'My Big Lodge'

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 24, 2008 12:02 PM

Sorry, re-write.

'Biff, I have a few other predictions. But NO 'intentions' of sharing them.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 24, 2008 12:06 PM

So you've only exposed part of the story. How about a hint at #3?

Where's The What? Has there been a real sighting? Don't tell me he's now in hibernation for the winter! Should we look for a Cousin Itt lookalike in the photos in the Forum, a la Where's Waldo?

Wait a minute, I just found him. Looks like he's giving up! Does this mean the war has officially ended?

yo, that doesn't even look like real stucco - more like knock off stucco (DryVit) !

Posted by: bowl of dicks at November 24, 2008 12:42 PM

I thought you were more intrigued with my #1 prediction.
So, now your 'intentions' are to talk about #3?

Biff...you do like to stir things up, or what. Behave yourself over there.

Dryvit, sucks. You press your finger against it, it'll leave an indent.

"Biff...you do like to stir things up, or what. Behave yourself over there."
At least I didn't post the lyrics to Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey, Goodbye. Although the day isn't over.

There's such a thing as faux stucco?? What next, someone will tell me there's a fake type of wood panelling many of our parents had/have in their basements?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 24, 2008 1:15 PM

Though I'm not exactly a fan of this particular building, I'd suggest a lot of a buildings appeal is context. This place wouldn't even get a 2nd glance in Cairo, Ankara, Jersusalem...hell even Barcelona.

Could you imagine how much fuss would be raised if a North Slope Brownstone Mansion were plunked down in the center city of Tangier?

Context...

Posted by: Prodigal_Son at November 24, 2008 1:24 PM

Biff, are you retreating??

Yes, there are alot of faux things in this world. I would rather see things stripped bare, than to have excess on the wall.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 24, 2008 1:47 PM

BRG, no, go check out the Forum post and jump in if you want. I'm still there, just being more low key than usual...I know, that doesn't say much.

How difficult is it to strip that material? Seems that a lot of elbow grease would be required.

I made a funny comment on a forum post that is sure to get pulled at some point.

I'm not going thee, I'm scared the what will attack me again.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 24, 2008 2:09 PM

"I'm not going thee, I'm scared the what will attack me again."

Oh, don't be such a coward. Things are fine. I've restored the situation with my usual diplomacy. Plus, since when have you not proven your ability to hold your own?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 24, 2008 2:12 PM

Biff, I can def. hold my own...and I can probably hold up for others also. But, I had a really rough weekend and just want to relax today. I don't want to open my mouth and have someone (what) shoot their verbiage at me.

Awning, anyone?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at November 24, 2008 2:41 PM

I understand. I've had the same problem whereby I'll spew much more than one can swallow.

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 24, 2008 2:55 PM

Can you 2 get a room?

Posted by: Prodigal_Son at November 24, 2008 3:04 PM

"Can you 2 get a room?"

Good idea, where can we find one with a "My Little Castle" awning?

Posted by: Biff Champion at November 24, 2008 3:12 PM

Corcoran's got one: 3.8 million. Estate ready.
