111 Lawrence Revealed

As the number of links below suggests, we've been somewhat obsessed with the 51-story tower currently rising at 111 Lawrence Street a stone's throw from Metrotech in Downtown Brooklyn. We hadn't seen a rendering yet, though, so we were excited when a reader sent us this link over the weekend to the developer's website. (The photo is from about a month ago.) Four words for you: Not a small building!

I personally don't have a problem with the height. But as I have said numerous times, an office building should have been constructed here.

It'll be great when downtown Brooklyn becomes a 24 hour community. On a related note, have you noticed that some property owners are beginning to renovate and rent their second and third floor unused space in buildings on the Fulton Mall? It's about time someone saw the value in those spaces.

I do hope it ends up being alot nicer than the rendering because the architects, GKV do some nice work.

Just to be clear, I am all in favor of a 24/7/365 downtown. I also firmly believe that the commercial core needs a critical mass to be really successful and this site, etc., etc.

i'm hoping that they just decided to spend less money on the rendering cause i ain't feeling this look. anybody seen what avalon's building is going to look like?

it's no work of art but i wouldn't call it ugly. not like some of the other stuff going up (avalon, say).
