Best Soup in Brooklyn?
Chowhound redgirl highly recommends the Italian wedding soup from Naidre's in Park Slope (384 Seventh Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets). Anyone else have a nomination for the best bowl of soup in the borough?

Brooklyn's Beer Renaissance
The New York Times reports on Brooklyn's wave of successful breweries: "Sixpoint’s growth in the borough has been the most rapid. Its sales have doubled every year since it started in 2004 with a dozen customers. (It even contracts out some brewing to Greenpoint.) Some 300 bars and restaurants in New York now pour beers from the Sixpoint lineup: Sweet Action, Brownstone Ale, Righteous Rye."

Baby-Friendly Bars, Anyone?
Citysearch rounds up the best bars for folks who are toting tykes. This serves as a helpful guide for booze-craving mamas — and perhaps as a list of places-to-avoid-in-the-afternoon for those who believe that babies and beer just don't mix. Three Brooklyn bars — Floyd (131 Atlantic Avenue), Tea Lounge (837 Union Street), and Abilene (442 Court Street) — made the list.

Now Closed: Queen's Hideaway and Mura
The New York Times has bad news for Queen's Hideaway fans: "Liza Queen’s quirky little restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, is no more." And Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn reports that Mura, a Park Slope sushi joint, is closed (at least temporarily) due to fire damage.

Where to Watch the Marathon: Pacific Standard
"On marathon day, Sunday, November 2, we'll be opening early, at 9:30 am, to host people who want to watch the marathon, which runs right by our bar [located at 82 Fourth Avenue, near St. Marks Place]. You can watch the leaders and the pack go by out of our big windows and enjoy the fact that you're not running 26 miles, via beer. We'll also have a barbecue station on the sidewalk outside, so you can grab some cheap hot dogs and burgers, or bring meat/veggies of your own to grill." [Pacific Standard Blog]

Coming Soon: Wild Ginger
Last month, we reported on a new pan-Asian vegan restaurant called Wild Ginger that is set to open at 112 Smith Street. According to Chowhound vatl619, "It looked very close to opening when i walked by last night..."

Kids are kids and beer is beer. I happen to have a strong affinity for both. And in my experience, a word such as "horrendous" is far better applied when speaking about adults.

Example: "that old lady on our block that hates children has a horrendous attitude and outlook on life"

ahhh, got it. like "that horrendous parent has no control over or sense of responsibility for their kid, so they impair themself to deal." beer, making bad parenting easier since 3500 BC.

A bar, beer and kids is not a good mix and not a good example to set.No wonder this country is going down the drain.Morality and good character and judgement are not taught or practiced. Such a shame.

gotta agree with iluvclintonhill here - kids should be kept out of bars, just like cigarettes. Because, like hello, it ruins it for OTHERS. Hire a babysitter and stop yer imposing.

Yes, beer and kids have led our country straight down this hole. No wonder! My bad folks.

One beer, no impairment. Candy-Ass Central Bar empty at 4:30 on a Tuesday, no haters to bother. Bad parenting, not on my team. My kids ain't never misbehavin' in public.

i got it, and im a guy in my 30's. try the six points sweet action ale this weekend, or arrogant bastard, GREAT beers. just stay outta my bars w/the kids. ;)

I too am a guy in my 30's. Just give me Candy-Ass Central Bar on Tuesday, once a month, btw 4:30 and 5:15, and we have a deal. I'll send the dog in first to sniff for bad vibes.

Have a kid, may change your perspective; or maybe not. But either way, reading kid's books on the couch while having a beer, at the softest bar in town, is hardly crap parenting.

agreed. my experiences were seeing moms alone w/strollers in bars where the music was too loud to even talk, and seeing them throw back 3+ highballs, thus the sensitivity.

I swear, I've never taken my kid to loud bars and downed highballs. quiet n'hood pubs, a beer or two while the tot has dinner, early enough not to ruin anyone's date--now that I've done.

As long as the kids stay off my bocce court while I'm rolling, and the parents don't mind my swearing every now and then, its all fine with me... the kiddies can drink up.

to answer a question posed a few weeks ago about the DOB permits on the old television repair shop on Henry Street--I saw the owner of Brooklyn Social coming out...don't know what that means...
