Happy Birthday PLG!
It was 29 years ago yesterday that the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens Historic District was born, an article in today's Brooklyn Eagle reminds us. Built on the former farm of 17th-century Dutch immigrant Leffert Pietersen van Haughwout, the architecturally distinctive community sprang up under the supervision of van Haughwout's great-great-great-grandson James Lefferts in the last decade of the 19th century and first decade of the 20th century. For more history, check out the Lefferts Manor Association website.

"In order to assure the success of his endeavor, James Lefferts instituted a series of restrictive covenants for each lot that clearly defined what type of building would be allowed. These covenants not only excluded noxious uses such as pigpens, glue factories, and breweries..."
Glad I bought just outside of the manor. My glue factory is going to replace my 401(k). Anybody have any old horses they don't need?

Hey Bob Marvin,
How did you heat your house in the 17th century when you bought next door to your old pal Leffert?

It's been a while, but IIRC I burned dried sheep dung :-)

Congrats, PLG!
Bob, you have a wonderfully droll sense of humor, I love it.

Thanks M.M.
Thats just what my old pal Leffert said, back in the day, when I told him this new joke:
"Waarom kruiste de kip de weg?
Om aan andere side te krijgen;".

They had roads back then? Dinosaur trails, perhaps, if you believe Sarah.
Very funny. (and thank you, Babel Fish)
