Development Watch: 659 Bergen Street
Once upon a time, 659 was a two-family townhouse, bought by developers Bergen Heights LLC in 2006 for $1.45 million. Now, far as we can tell, it's still a hole in the ground, having been demolished in 2007. Someday, though, it might be a five-story, 15-unit Karl Fischer building, perhaps similar in design to its across-the-road neighbor, 660 Bergen. (In 2006, Fischer filed for a permit for a four-story, eight-unit building; guess they got bigger eyes since then). According to the DOB, they've been filing permits steadily since May for things like installing shoring and new sprinkler heads, so perhaps they're on their way? 660 Bergen, meanwhile, went on sale in September, put three one-bedrooms between $479,000 and $499,000 in contract and still has nine listings active. It will be a home. For Ailanthus altissima for about two years. Then things will change again.
