AMNY Does Best of NY

radegast-1008.jpg
It's that time of the year, so AMNY threw its hat into the best-of ring yesterday. Naturally, Brooklyn made the cut in several categories. A few are below. For more, check out this pdf from AMNY.

Best Theme-y Bar: Radegast. "The feel is typical 1800s beer hall, with dark wood, communal tables, a circular bar and portraits of various German heroes overseeing the action."

Best New Brooklyn Restaurant: General Greene. "The farmhouse fare at this new favorite is fresh and the service friendly and capable."

Best Seasonal Cocktails: Botanica. "Drinks like the Hemingway (rosemary, vodka, elderflower liqueur and grapefruit juice) or the Maori (muddled kiwi, cucumber, vodka and lime juice) are made with fresh herbs and fruits and — thankfully — no pretension."

Best Non-Lame Stand-up: Sound Fix. "A miracle, as far as we’re concerned."

Best Bar to Meet the Opposite of a Banker: Hank's Saloon. "Head straight to this rickety urban honky tonk for cheap beer, occasional free ‘cue, country karaoke and a (very) divey atmosphere happily devoid of Brooks Brothers suits."

If you can ignore the occasional table of frat boys, Radegast is a blast.

Radegast blows, just a bunch of fratboys and their dizzy hoes.

Botanica, however, is awesome.

I haven't seen any gardening implements in the biergarten, I don't know what you're talking about.

'Radegast blows, just a bunch of fratboys and their dizzy hoes.'

With a description like that, people are going to flock there just for the dizzy hoes.

why general greene and not james? of course i'm a partisan since james is sorta in my hood, but every review of james has been sparkling, while general greene's have been mediocre. james wuz robbed!!

General Greene is ghastly - the place is nice looking, but the food is downright awful. Doesn't give me confidence in their "best" picks....

And don't forget the Flea was named best flea in NYC this AM!!!

agreed on general greene. was really underwhelmed by how bland my food was.

General Greene was the most disgusting restaurant I have ever been to, and also overpriced. Two of the four dishes I ordered at General Greene were inedible. The steak tasted spoiled. I will never go back. We would have left hungry even if we had eaten everything, and I forget how much the bill was but it was over $70 for two people and we ordered only one drink and it was a nonalcoholic one. Radegast is just incredibly obnoxious. And I usually like everything.

radegast is surely not all frat boys. it's pretty packed all the time. doubt they care if they win or not. it's doing extremely well.
