1142 Bedford Avenue Nearing Completion

1142-Bedford-Avenue-1008.jpg
We've been watching the new development at 1142 Bedford Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant with interest since work began back in mid-2007 mostly because the developer was trying to do a higher-end project in an area that hasn't had one for a century. Obviously this isn't the market he was hoping for when he started planning the 29-unit project, but according to a reply we got via email, he's still planning on going the condo route as of now. No word on pricing.

That's going to be tough, but as with all these places, if it's priced low enough, it could sell.

I'm interested to see the interiors. It looks like it could be just as nice (or nicer) than something like be@schermerhorn.

Dave- you beat me to it.

I always look at these when I go to the gym- it's proximity to the Y is probably the only good thing it has going for it. If you want to see what happens to a bad condo development in these necks of the woods- just go down the block a little further (towards Nostrand) and view the smaller modern empty disaster that awaits.

This building reminds me of 192 Spencer (aka the "Kodachrome "building), which is in the same general area. I was in contract on a condo back in March, but after months on the market, kodachrome met its rental destiny. I predict the same for 1142 Bedford.

7andfive, are you referring to 179 Monroe? (http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/building/179-monroe-street-brooklyn) If streeteasy is accurate, then it looks like half the units sold, so I'm not sure why it's empty.

I was told that several of the units at 179 Monroe went rental after staying empty for a very long time. There website said one unit sold for 529K- I feel really sorry for that person! That unit couldn't sell even sell for 399K today.

179 looks very much out of place on that block- plus it's not close to transportation. Have you tried walking to G train over there late at night?

these will HAVE to convert to rentals to house all the transplants moving here for a taste of the authentic "Real World Brooklyn" experience. developer should have dollar signs in his eyes. an nytimes article and all... that alone should cover the loss to our economy from the wall street debacle right?

i'm at the y several times a week and have been watching the progress on this one...gotta say, i'm not a fan. it's just ugly, on the outside at least. maybe the interiors will blow my mind, but i doubt it.

same goes for 179 monroe! that place is bizarre looking. but there are definitely people living there.
