Looks like the perp in the PS stabbing was a local boy, afterall.

thank god TJ's is about to open next week. I can finally kiss goodbye Key Food and that nasty ass Met Food on Baltic. Anyone notice how Key Food is trying to cover up their nastiness with all those green plants outside?

Trade Joe's - Good luck getting in!

Posted by: Suburbandude at September 17, 2008 8:36 AM

According to the BE article TJ's has a plaque commemorating Washington's victory in the battle of Long Island. What an interesting re-write of history.

Another fabulous picture above. I really enjoy these.

The stabbing story is likely to set off some fireworks again today. Let's just keep in mind these are still for the most part minors involved and parents (and the rest of us) need to ask what we can do to improve the situation. My heart goes out to the victim and I wish him a full recovery.

As for Trader Joe's...FINALLY! bowl of dicks, if you're referring to the Key Foods on Atlantic, that's like a palace compared to the one on Montague. I'm hoping to never have to set foot in there again!

That is a pretty nice photograph, but can we progress through the Indian summer and fall pictures first? Brrrr!

Posted by: altervoce at September 17, 2008 9:02 AM

And both Key foods are a thousand present better now than they were when I first moved to BH. The one on Montague is truly a skin-crawler. I am amazed they never did anything to fix it up. In that neighborhood? What happened to the D'agostino? Is that still open?

Posted by: bxgrl at September 17, 2008 10:21 AM

bxgrl, where was the D'Agastino? I don't know of any in the BH area.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 17, 2008 10:31 AM

Great photo!

Is this photo for sale?

Posted by: Architerrorist at September 17, 2008 10:40 AM

Beautiful photo. Thank you eyepenn for sharing.

The D'ags was where CVS is now, on Henry at Love Lane. It was the best market in the Heights. They closed in 2005. Still miss it.

Key Food on Montague is indeed a horror show.

Posted by: buttermilk channel at September 17, 2008 10:55 AM

For some reason, the photo is reminding me of Boulevard of Broken Dreams with James Dean. It's like the Bridge of Broken Dreams.

Thanks buttermilk channel. I wasn't in BH at that time, but wish D'AG was still around. Of course, the soon to be re-opened Gristedes on Henry is promising an "upscale" coffee bar. Woo Hoo. Thanks but no thanks.

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 17, 2008 11:02 AM

The D'Ags near me when I lived on the UES in Manhattan were just awful. How could a place with an Italian name do such a bad job at produce , meat & fish? mama mia!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at September 17, 2008 11:12 AM

i moved out of BH in '03 and haven't really been back thru since then -- no dags, no gristedes > so you all are stuck with the key food on montague??? a true nightmare, my sincere condolences!

Posted by: bowl of dicks at September 17, 2008 11:17 AM

You are correct, Bob. Washington got his butt kicked, and had to abandon New York. The city remained a British occupied stronghold for the remainder of the Revolutionary War.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at September 17, 2008 11:18 AM

I am eyepenn's mother. I did not think Brownstoner would choose that photograph any time soon because, as one poster noted, it is not winter (yet), but it is a haunting scene. I encouraged him to post to the Flickr pool because he has so many beautiful Brooklyn photographs.

The photos on this site often amaze me. There are so many talented people in Brooklyn, and I guess Brooklyn is pretty photogenic.

Posted by: QuartersB at September 17, 2008 11:21 AM

That D'ag was big and clean and new. I loved it. why did it close? Anyone know?

Posted by: bxgrl at September 17, 2008 11:22 AM

You've got some talented son, QuartersB! I love that photo too. Agree about the photos here. Mr. B- can we say coffee table book? (Please leave out the waterbug from the other thread though!).

Posted by: bxgrl at September 17, 2008 11:25 AM

Thanks for the comments on the photos. I didn't think it would be posted because it's still summer. This was taken in the blizzard on 2/12/2006.

Posted by: eyepenn at September 17, 2008 11:41 AM

Thank you, bxgrl. Of course, I agree. When I suggested he post, he said, Why don't I just lend you a camera? I said, Do you think Mr. B. will post my photos with all the missing heads?

That's why I gave him my Pentax and a book when he was sixteen years old. Smartest thing I ever did.

Posted by: QuartersB at September 17, 2008 11:47 AM

"Gave him my Pentax"? After years of snatching it, you finally gave up and decided to allow me use it.

Posted by: eyepenn at September 17, 2008 11:59 AM

You two are funny. Seems like a sweet relationship. Keep on snapping, eyepenn!

Posted by: Biff Champion at September 17, 2008 12:08 PM

QuarterB- my brother was a military photographer but we were never sure where he got his talent from as my father's idea of a good photo was to never have a 90 degree angle in any shot. He didn't cut off the heads but our whole world had an interesting, uh...slant. :-)

eyepenn- be nice to your mom! She probably has a slew of naked baby pics she could post.
