Streetlevel: Gates Ave. Video and Candy To Close

The good news is that all movies at Gates Ave. Video and Candy Store are now $5.00. The bad news, if you're a fan of the shop, is that they're closing. We haven't heard what's going to replace it at 156 Gates Avenue in Clinton Hill. Anybody out there got the scoop?

Aw, this makes me very sad! We were big fans of this place and even schlepped on the bus when we moved from around the corner to Bed-Stuy. What's Anthony (owner) going to do now?

I believe he's going back to florida , he mentioned that the landlord is very anxious to rent the space to a low key venture preferably nothing to do with food, apparently the rent is reasonable and it wasn't raised in five years. I have no idea what could do well on that corner but I'd love to have another movie rental store.

a video store would be great, but the reality is probably netflix probably dominates in the neighborhood. if another food/restaurant must go there a bagel spot would be nice (actually a bakery which also does bagels would work).
