Streetlevel: C-Town Coming to Greenwood Heights

4th_25th_09_08.jpg
Rumor has it that the National Supermarket building on 4th and 25th Streets in Greenwood Heights will soon become a C-Town. According to photos from Property Shark, it's been various supermarket brands before, but now a second story is being added, and folks on Brooklynian have been speculating about expanded produce offerings and a general upgrade from the current market, which should please the new buyers snatching up condos in the area. The change has been two years in the making according to DOB records. We gave C-Town a call to confirm but didn't hear back.

"the new buyers snatching up condos in the area"

Is anybody actually snatching up those condos, or are the majority of them still languishing on the market? Discuss.

C-town like Met food and Key food are food cooperatives of sorts where individual stores are not owned by the brand name(sort of like McDonald's)...but by individual owners-they are like franchises.

hope this brings the quality of food ppl in the area are looking for. my experience w/c-town when i was in grad school (living on amsterdam and 119th) was that the produce was the nastiest i've seen of any market, causing all sorts of speculation about what the "C" really stood for.

but, as coops, the quality/assortment varies between stores.
