Streetlevel: Silver Spoon Yogurt Coming to Fulton

silver-spoon-fulton-0808.jpg
The Brooklyn yogurt wars continue to escalate! Just last week we reported that Korean-style yogurt vendor Yofiore had recently signed a pricey lease at 32 Court Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Now comes news that a shop called Silver Spoon, which traffics in "premium" fro-yo, is setting up shop at 739 Fulton Street in Fort Greene. Presumably the rent on this stretch of Fulton is lower than the $14,000 a month Yofiore is shelling out on Court. GMAP

How many different Pinkberry clones can there possibly be?

Posted by: zinka at August 4, 2008 2:37 PM

I agree with you Zinka.

Pinkberry has done for yogurt, what Starbucks has done for coffee.

Both are inferior to many of the copycats, in my opinion.

I've taken MANY people to OKO in Park Slope and every person I've ever taken has said they think it's better than Pinkberry. Same goes for Yogo Monster, although I only prefer it slightly less than OKO.

I personally think Starbucks sucks, but until they arrived on the scene, this country really wasn't very coffee obsessed. Their arrival has increased the standards for coffee drinking in this country and actually has helped independent coffee shops flourish.

I don't know...I think these new Yogurt shops popping up are kinda fun. More healthy than Ice cream and better than Banks or cell phone stores. They've got warm bodies and often colorful storefronts.

Maybe they can use inflated dollars.

U.S. Economy: Inflation Erodes Buying Power, Tax-Rebate Effects

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aJ3tZfCmCNbg&refer=home

With the economy on the brink of a recession, consumers are focusing their purchases on staples while cutting back on luxuries like $4 lattes, causing sales to slump at Starbucks Corp. the world's largest chain of coffee shops.

Starbucks last week said it will close more U.S. stores than it will open next year after it posted its first loss in 16 years as a public company.

Nuff said..

The What

Someday this war is gonna end...

So let me get this straight, What.

You are against a housing bubble with prices going up every year, but you are FOR the over-expansion of chains/rising prices and expect them to never have off years??

Wouldn't a starbucks really be better at this location? How much frozen yogurt does one sell in February?

Can't we all just enjoy a little Froyo and not analyze everything to death. There's new about a new yogurt store in Fort Greene, and the discussion inevitably turns to the housing market.

Shoots and Leaves...i think we're lucky it hasn't degenerated into a discussion of anything worse. PropJoe hasn't added his 2 cents worth yet.

Thank you Shoot and Leaves!!! Your point is well taken. Enough already. Personally, I am happy to see that there will be a new froyo shop. It will be a great addition to the neighborhood.

Pinkberry is nasty. I would kill for a Red Mango somewhere in Brooklyn Heights / Cobble Hill. As a friend of mine said - Red Mango is like sex in a yogurt cup.

Absolutely agree with you. You dream has come true. I just saw the coming soon sign for Red Mango on Court Street between State Street and Atlantic Ave.

What happened to Keur n'Deye? I really thought that place was exceptional, and I was really sad to see it go. I wasn't crazy about the renovation, but loved the people there.
