Streetlevel: More Crunch on Flatbush

crunch_0808.jpg
The Park Slope branch of Crunch opened in the late nineties earlier this decade on the second floor of 330 Flatbush Avenue. Nearly a decade later Now, they're expanding into the first floor and basement. A rep for the company said the new space will hold "all new cardio," and in the basement they're adding yoga and Pilates studios. She said construction was expected to finish in a month or so, though from the looks of it they're going to have to, um, muscle to the finish.

Lots of improvements in this part of Flatbush lately.

A pretty amazing new vegetarian place just opened across from the Q train called Tao Palate, as well as a new nice looking boutique on that same side.

I also saw a place last night across from American Apparel boarded up and about to become something new.

Hey bktycoon. Here is a link from the Prospect Heights message board on Tao Palate...it's the same owners as Wild Ginger in Williamsburg and Soho. I found it very similar to the Zen Palate in Union Square...so in my book, rather good.

I'm no longer a vegetarian, but I still found the food quite good and the decor above average. I think it's definitely a keeper...

(You'll see the menu for Tao Palate on the second page of comments on the PH message boards).

Uh, sorry, buckaroos, but this was not always a Crunch. A couple years ago, Crunch took over for another gym (Park Slope Fitness, or something like that).

11217 - gracias, sounds good, look fwd to checking it out..

is that where christies used to be?

yes - used to be park slope fitness - i still have the key chain ID card on an old set of keys.

The Slope Health and Fitness is now at 7th and Union. Not sure if that's what the Crunch used to be...

Wish they had a NY Sports Club up in these parts.

Nice to see that "dead" corner coming alive though, in any event.

And it's right next to my favorite...Natural Land!!

You mean Christies Jamaican patties?

They are across the street on the other side of Flatbush. Haven't lived here long enough to know if they were once on this side, though...

Lisa:

They had a write up in the latest Time Out New York about a new shop that opened up in the Slope. It's a shop/design collective of 5 woman and their wares.

It's on 5th Street between 5th and 6th. Might want to consider writing it up.

It's called Urban Alchemist.

Sorry...a million posts. Just had too much coffee...

Here's another new place getting some good press:

i love christies, however i tried a spicy beef patty recently from little miss muffin. In these tough economic times, its amazing how far $1.50 can go on flatbush

Yes, Crunch is expanding into the storefront where Christies used to be (corner of Flatbush and Sterling).

As we all know, Christies relocated down the street on Flatbush (across from Blockbuster) a few months back.

It was Park Slope Sports & Fitness. Same owners of Fort Greene Sports & Fitness (on Fulton), which is now also a Crunch. The changeover happened for both sites about 2 years ago.

"Haven't lived here long enough to know if they were once on this side, though..."

Yes, at the very end of this block.

Bktycoon- Little Miss Muffin also has fantastic brownies/pastries. I always stop in for the strawberry croissant if I can manage to get there early enough. They always sell out quickly on the weekends it seems.
I love that little place, hope it doesn't get priced out of the nabe anytime soon.

i haven't been to christies in a minute. is everything pretty much the same still? (except for the location of course)

Posted by: BrooklynLove at August 14, 2008 7:22 PM

Little Miss Muffin rocks. I used to go there all the time when I lived in PH. Excellent patties and cookies.
