Streetlevel: A New Wine Shop on 5th

A tipster reports that the space Living on 5th used to occupy — 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets — will become a wine shop. So says a sign pasted in their window, announcing that Picada Y Vino is coming soon. (We assume picada refers to a kind of Argentinian antipasto, not the nutty sauce for chicken). Not much about it on the Web, other than one obscure reference to its opening in August. Anybody heard more?

This area around 3rd is blossoming.
First it was 'Snice on the corner (which seems to be doing VERY well) then the new Bird boutique (with women's AND men's I hear) just opened across the street, there is a new restaurant opening (same owner as Apertivo) right next to Bird that looks almost ready, and the place next to 'Snice finally looks rented.
And now this place.

I agree with 11217. That area of 5th avenue is definitly blossoming and is developing a character of its own. I am very very happy that they are opening a wine shop in the area. I will visit the new store often as I am sure many others will as well.
Welcome to the neighborhood Picada Y Vino ..... we are very glad your here!
...................see you soon :)

Speaking of wine stores, does anyone know when the wine bar being started by the owners of Big Nose Full Body on 7th in Park Slope is going to open?

That's great news. Been complaining for years about that (no wine store without bulletproof glass in the immed vicinity). Of course I just moved out of there but I hope my neighbors enjoy it.

I know these fine young ladies... seem like they know their stuff. I haven't spoken to them since their liquor license was still in limbo a long time ago - but August was their plan... they've had the lease for a few months now. Hope the regulators are screwing up their bidness.
It'll be a good addition to 5th. I hear it has a back yard for tastings!! Yum!

We already have Red White and Bubbly!
I'd prefer a general liquor store. I hope it isn't just wine.

Today is their first day open - until 8pm tonight and every week night, until 9pm on Friday and Saturday. First tasting is this Saturday from 2pm - 5pm.
Say hello to Melissa and Leigh when you stop in!

P, RW&B is a great wineshop, probably the best in PS, but it's a ways down from 5th Street. Even farther from 9th Street, for example. I think a small wineshop there will do well.

Thanks to jack123 for the info on the opening! I can't wait to try the wine bar given how great their wine store is!!

I'd also love to see a full-on liquor store (without bullet-proof plexiglass) on that stretch of 5th Ave.

does it not sound like some of the above individuals are shills? 11217, troll, etc. are you business owners on the block?

anon552 - I am not a buisness owner but have a place walking distance from this place.

stopped in here yesterday, and had a pleasant experience. They recommended a terrific bottle of Cabernet and were very friendly and open to suggestions. Not a ton of selection, but seemed highly curated for various price points. I usually go to the Prospect Wine Shop, but I'd be happy to shop here, too.

friend brought over a bottle of wine from this place last night. It was Uruguaian (sp?). I believe it is the same wine that's on the Blue Ribbon wines by the glass list. Interesting blend of guwurzstrameiner (sp?), chenin blanc, sauvignon and maybe viognier?
Totally delicious and unique.
