New Bar Coming to Third Avenue

The sign says it all: Over 200 of the world's finest beers (Brooklyn Lager included?) will soon be available for sipping at 530 Third Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets. The sign says Draft Barn, also the name of a beer hall on Avenue X. Is that their South Slope cousin? Seems a strange spot for a bar, but if Whole Foods ever shows up, perhaps nearby businesses on Third Ave will get a boost? Upstairs is something called the Brooklyn Acupuncture Project, where a date with the needles ranges between $15 and $45. Maybe they'll have specials on a brew with some Eastern medicine?

One of my favorite, and more upscale, restaurants in Philly called Osteria carries Brooklyn Lager on tap but no Yuengling!!!!

IF Whole Foods ever shows up - that is 10 blocks away/ a half mile from here. Not much of a relationship.

That's a lot closer to Lowe's and Pathmark than to the Whole Foods site. This will be a nice spot to go to after cruising for MILFs in the frozen foods section.

So we're calling 3rd Avenue between 12th and 13th South Slope and not Gowanus now?
I really don't care, but I was under the impression that Park Slope's western boundary was 4th Avenue.

Sketch location. That is a prime area to get mugged after a night of drinking. Totally desolate at night.
I think that given the zoning, Gowanus is fine for a large music venue where crowds are more likely to be coming and going at a similar time. Bars like this though, that basically are places to get wasted... I dunno.

There's a gigantic new apartment building going up on the 4th ave. side of the block, and Bar Tano at 9th and 3rd. I think this place should do well. I'd go......

Glad to see someone taking a chance and opening something besides a gas station, or combo fast food mart at this location. If they're related to the place in Gravesend, based on what I've read, they'll have a pretty nice place, decent food, and they'll serve a good selection of beer in the right glasses-

Doesn't sound bad...

can't recall the space...is it big enough to be a real beer hall?

I'm looking forward to this place opening. Its close to my place and I kind of like this area of Gowanus/South Slope. I wouldn't say it is sketchy, edgy definitely, but not sketchy.

The owner gave me a tour the other day, it was nice. It has a bar is in the middle of the floor, private booths, even a private room for small gatherings. The kitchen downstairs was immaculate. It is going to be central European fare and beers.

Park Slope's boundaries on the Southern-Western end are actually Prospect Expressway and 3rd Ave. I'm between 3/4th on 15th and we have a 11215 zip.
And you will definitely not get mugged over there. Not much at all will happen really. I walk home late nights all the time and there's nothing going on, it's super safe. Unlike @ 10 years ago. You've probably got more of a probability getting mugged near the park, as criminal contingent usually assumes that where the $ is to be had.

That's what the realtor told you?

Ewww Seriously?
Yes - I've lived there for 7 years - 11215. It's people like you that make it hard.

This isn't Park Slope (zip codes do not a neighborhood make), but nor is it mugging territory. If you're drinking nearby, I'd say stumbling into the Taco Bell down the street is your biggest danger.
