Streetlevel: Restaurant/Bar Coming to 7 Greene Avenue

7-Greene-Avenue-0708.jpg
This is one of those posts where the headline says it all. The storefront at 7 Greene Avenue at Fulton will be reborn—possibly as soon as next month—as a new restaurant and bar. That's all we know, though it did look like there was a cool skylit atrium space at the rear. Anyone got the 411? GMAP

Hi--I read about this a while ago in NY Mag. I'm looking forward to it!

This proves how some commenters simply don't read what others have to say.

You did not notice, SKF that someone else posted that exact same link over an hour before you did?

This is the spot that the NYmag piece is talking about. They had some sort of employee party in the space yesterday. As my husband and I were walking by we asked if we stop in and take a look around. Apparently, lots of people did the same thing because they have two huge windows now where those boards are in the photo.

We met the chef, Tyler Kord and the designer of the space Matthew Maddy who took us around. There are two skylights in the back. There's going to be a garden too. It's got a really nice marble bar.

They haven't got a name yet. They said they were going to be open in six weeks.

1127--get over yourself. i simply did not see it; i read the first part of commenter' #1's post, not the second.

That sounds lovely, but you know what we REALLY need on the Fulton Street corridor? A Starbucks.

And no, I'm not joking.

Heather, I was so liking you till you brought up that naughty "S" word...

Hey, they pay their employee's health insurance, don't knock them. They also make large stretches of middle america, where there is no good coffee otherwise, bearable.

And forgive me, Tillie's, but the Fort Greene coffee situation... kinda sucks.

I know, I know. They've done some ok things. I still have it out for them though. Long story.

I haven't set foot in one for 18 months now. Not even in desperate situations where I needed to piss like a racehorse.

It's just one of my things. Don't pay any attention to me.

It's okay. We all have our issues. Pro-Starbucks is just one of mine. I'd be just as happy if Oslo opened a branch. Is that better?

Posted by: Heather at July 28, 2008 4:48 PM

I'm an Ozzie's man, Heather.

I don't know this Oslo you speak of...

This place sounds promising.

Ah, that is Park Slope effete coffee squaring off against Williamsburg effete coffee!

Frankly, I'd take either on Fulton. There's Provisions... but they don't open that early, plus, their counter staff annoy me because they always give you dirty looks if you don't bring your own recyclable hemp bag. And Outpost (which I've only read about) is too far away.

For the Fort Greene- Clinton Hill coffee connoisseurs, Bidonville on Willoughby between Clermont and Adelphi serves a delicious brew and sells Choice muffins and other goodies without a wait.

there's something about this place i don't like already, and it smacks of smug, "upmarket" pretense.

Posted by: oneonetwotwoone at July 29, 2008 11:59 AM

PS. make your own fucking coffee!!

Posted by: oneonetwotwoone at July 29, 2008 12:00 PM

Ah, the coffee in Ft Greene/Clinton Hill discussion...there is definitely a shortage of good coffee shops in the neighborhood. Outpost is by far the best tasting coffee in the hood, but as you say its a bit of a hike from this location. My second choice is Smooch, then Bittersweet, then Tillies.

You guys are all silly. Walk your lazy behinds 2 blocks to Dekalb where there are plenty of coffeeshops...and Ft. Greene does not need a Starbucks. If that's what you want move to the upper west side.
