StreetLevel: More Kicks for 5th Avenue

sneak-shop-fifth-ave-07-2008.JPG
Premium Goods, the sneaker shop on 5th Avenue between 4th and 5th streets, is expanding into the recently vacated storefront next door. The new shop is going to carry women's sneakers and it's supposed to be in business within a couple of weeks. The store is replacing a beauty-supply boutique. GMAP

This place has to be a front for something. I've never seen anybody shopping there, except a year ago when there was a big limited edition Spike Lee sneaker release when they had a line around the corner. Otherwise, most days it's just a couple guys playing video games on the big flatscreen on the wall. What is it a front for though? And why do they need more space to front it?

Place garbage...All they do is play video games and don't even bother trying to help anyone that comes in there. This must be a last ditch effort to get sales.

It could very well be a front for something indeed. There is a lot of activity in the backyard's basement... from a couple gardens away, you can see people going in and out the basement of the building through the garden entrance sometimes at night. Always wondered what the hell they're doing going in and out at night.
