Streetlevel: iPhone Mania Not Just for Manhattanites

iphone-fulton-mall-0708.jpg
Today's the day for the new iPhone 3G. Racked has already been monitoring the lines in Manhattan, but how about Brooklyn? This was the scene at around 8 a.m. at the AT&T store in Fulton Mall. Any other field reports from around the borough?

Can't believe you are falling for this publicity stunt / silly marketing ploy and giving it (free) publicity.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 10:06 AM

lighten up folks, jeez. bklyn is also a retail center, it's an important part of the culture.....

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 10:13 AM

3G?

BHAAHHAAAAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHH!!!!!!

ROFLMAO!!!!!

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 10:19 AM

Walking to the train this morning, I was wondering what this line was, until I saw the AT&T line. The only line in Downtown BK in the AM is the one usually for foreigners looking to get legal papers.

I'm shocked that so many people need to get a friggin phone on the first day its issued.

Kudos to S. Jobs & Co for knowing how to create demand.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 10:37 AM

They create demand...by wrapping up everything in a pretty package and then--the touch of genius!--making the battery unreplacable!

Go Apple! Buy those new 3G phones, they'll be useless in a year.

Posted by: WonTon at July 11, 2008 10:43 AM

finally the US has 3g system compatible phones. Took a long time to catch up to Europe.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 10:49 AM

I agree that waiting in line is a little silly, but these phones are GREAT.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 10:52 AM

They create demand by redefining a crappy product, cellphone/portable music player/beige PC, into something that works intelligently and intuitively for the user and they deliver it well...

...except they are having major activation problems, the mobileme webapps are on and off again and crashing servers and they are frustrating their customers today. It will all be fine by next week(let's hope) but people are childish and can not wait.

Apple Lovers = Owners
Apple Haters = Renters

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:05 AM

I'm a Linux user. I am only rarely cognizant of Apple's existence.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:12 AM

Says on Apple's website that this thing has at most 16GB capacity. Surely this is a typo?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:14 AM

Check out Biff Champion's cool video:

linux? Do you use betamax too?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:21 AM

Why 11:21, I do believe you suffer from Ubuntu envy...

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:23 AM

That's bullcrap. It will hold way more than 16GB. You're an idiot.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:24 AM

Apple = wannabee Microsoft

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:51 AM

11.51, yep, Apple models themselves on microsoft.

11.51 - wannabe intelligent being.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 11:57 AM

Is that a catheter & fur store next door?

Posted by: madison_st at July 11, 2008 12:01 PM

It cracks me up how all the Asswipes who MUST have green organic biodegradable compostable toilet paper, etc., are also the same Asswipes who are enslaved to the cult of Apple.

Planned obsolesence, soon to be added to the toxic heap of carbon spewing waste! Go Apple!

Posted by: WonTon at July 11, 2008 12:08 PM

Apple's sphincter gets tighter than a snare drum on plenty of issues. Just look at all the music sharing/streaming issues surrounding itunes. At times Apple can look a LOT like Microsoft.

Open source, anyone?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 12:19 PM

"...Apple models themselves..."

Need we even comment?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 12:21 PM

IPhone 3G will be useless when Atlantic yard is built.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 12:27 PM

how many of the fools lining up today stood on line with the sheep last year to drop 600 bones on an inferior model? and how many of these einsteins will be lining up next year for the 99 dollar improved model? and how many of these shmos spent 400 for a motorola razr 3 years ago?

In the OLD days people lined up for concert tickets, and now it's "I gotta be the first one to have........... It life sooooooooo boring? If they waited two days they could have walked in without a line.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 12:49 PM

how many of these fools are also wearing brooklyn industries crap?

75%?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 1:41 PM

Yo Wonton, are you posting from a "green organic biodegradable compostable computer"?

Thought not.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 2:01 PM

12:45 - Not even close. The whole AY trope is played out.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 2:02 PM

My computer is 12 years old, Asswipe 2:01, and it runs on a combination of solar power and crushed goji berries. When it kicks out I will send it back to the Glorious Motherland for recycling.

At which time you will have spent a total of 3,588 on your 9 useless obsolete an non-recyclable iPhones.

Posted by: WonTon at July 11, 2008 2:11 PM

nice phone but how much is it per month?

Posted by: reno911 at July 11, 2008 2:11 PM

2:11... So basically you're saying that your computer is older than you are?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 2:25 PM

2:11: I know you're just trying to stir up trouble, but it's the same as the other 3G devices on AT&T's network.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 3:50 PM

Instinct is way better than iphone....Sprint 3G is also 5x faster

<-----sprint employee :-)

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 3:56 PM

So, what is the capacity on this thing?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 3:57 PM

My guess would be at least 50GB.

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 4:47 PM

But how many bathrooms does it have?

Posted by: I_haz_TWO_toilets at July 11, 2008 4:49 PM

Awesome comments here.

Hey, anyone know where I can buy a Guernsey cow?

Posted by: guest at July 11, 2008 8:45 PM

8:45, this might be a good place to start:

http://www.usguernsey.com/partners.htm

See especially the link to "New York State Guernsey Breeders".
