RealtyTrac: NYC Foreclosures Up 29%

RealtyTrac's second-quarter numbers for the five boroughs show the foreclosure rate rising 28.6 percent over the same time last year, according to a story in the Daily News. Queens had the highest number of foreclosure filings and Brooklyn came in second, with 1,981. In total, RealtyTrac recorded 6,380 NYC foreclosure filings in the second quarter. That number includes the 4,934 people who received default notices for missing two or three payments; 653 actually lost their homes over the three-month period. In the first quarter of the year, 361 homes in the city were seized by lenders.
