'Real World' to Red Hook; No Tears Shed at Belltel?

Right now no one seems to know where "The Real World" is going to be filming in Brooklyn. The latest rumor, c/o Curbed, is that MTV is set on Red Hook. If the show is indeed throwing over Downtown's Belltel Lofts, the president of the condo's board seems to think that might be fine and dandy for the building's image. Per a message the board prez wrote on the Belltel Google Groups Blog:
The penthouse apts they were planning to shoot the "RW" in were incomplete as the building has been opening in phases starting with the lower floors. MTV wanted to renovate the apts to their own specifications but unfortunately have not started working on the penthouse construction sites because they have a problem getting their permits from the city for the work they need to do on time, so it looks like they are leaving the building to meet their shooting schedule into a building which has been completed since 2006 but has difficulty selling. MTV will retain some space for production. We hope you all feel that this decision will only put our building in a more upscale and prestigious position. We will keep you posted if the situation changes.
The reader who forwarded us the message writes: "I'm still wondering what she means by 'a more upscale and prestigious position.'" Things that make you go hmmm...

Red Hook is a great choice. Each of the kids could live in a different Ikea showroom floor.

They have a location and it's being designed now. Yes, it's in Red Hook.

Is there any reason why grown-ups should care about any of this?

It'll be in Red Hook and Ikea will have an ad tie in. ad whores.

fake what alert.
this never made any sense so not a surprise. and red hook doesn't make any sense either. this has williamsburg or bust written all over it. you'll find plenty of circa 2006 new construction with difficulties selling there. or just keep heading north to LIC where you can have your pick of the litter - they have invetory out to wazoo.

sarcasm alert.
Clearly the faded guest typers were right on the money that the bold typers were dragging down the discussion and causing all the nastiness, as evidenced by the high quality posting of the guest in this thread.

I heard thet owners at Beltel are getting hit with hefty and unexpected R/E tax bills. The building cannot get an abatement until it is completed and it has quite a ways to go....

Site has been selected. It's in Red Hook. And the drawings are being prepared for filing at the DOB. I know the architect doing the work.
What's the Real world?
Posted by: bayridgegirl at July 16, 2008 2:10 PM
Ok everyone enough with the speculation and let's start being realistic. Why not just have the Real World take place on STATEN ISLAND :) It will help to bring quality attention to the island.
Yes, No, Maybe So?

why on earth would they do a Real World show in Red Hook??
Posted by: werner at July 16, 2008 4:00 PM
As other posters have mentioned, the show actually counts on the roommates being somewhat isolated because then relationships develop and so do the feuds. In other cities they have given them a car or van so that might happen here. Or car services will get some PR...go Arecibo! I don't really expect to see them on the B61. I would like to see Sunny and Greg O'C in cameos.

Ugh. This show is obnoxious, and I'm thoroughly disappointed that one of the last "real" neighborhoods in Brooklyn is going to be infested by imbeciles of the MTV kind. Well, there goes the preservation of Red Hook, and goodbye to my affordable rent.
