Belltel/Real World Marriage on the Rocks?

belltel-071408.jpg
Six weeks after the announcement (and subsequent media frenzy) that the next installment of the MTV show The Real World would take place in the BellTel in Downtown Brooklyn, a blog by the agency that books appearances for the show's casts is reporting that the deal may be delayed, or even called off, because of the pace of construction. The MM Agency blog reports that the best-case scenario for filming to begin is mid-August; it also says that filming is supposed to conclude by November 17. Then the bombshell: "An intern from Hunter College who is working for MTV provided an interesting statement that The Real World may not even film there because they were having some issues with the BellTel Lofts building with the location at 116 Third Place in Carroll Gardens as the backup." Zoinks!

The CG place looks more like a frat house to me. Has anyone briefed these kids about what the phrase "out of context" means?

They should be keeping it real and doing this show in Flatbush. Downtown BK is still too sterile.

Posted by: plgdude at July 14, 2008 9:27 AM

I was hearing rumors this weekend that they were moving to Red Hook.

Posted by: tscola at July 14, 2008 9:38 AM

Red Hook? Might work if they could do it in a cool waterfront loft building. At least they could ride the Ikea bus back and forth for free.

Posted by: lowintheheights at July 14, 2008 9:45 AM

I just can't see them using a brownstone simply because the cameramen would probably quit if they had to chase the cast members up and down the stairs all day. (Although if they choose CG, I would have to watch to see if Buddy Scotto shows up in a cameo.)

Good point, 9:52, but think of the potential for upskirt shots!

MTV shoots "Making The Band" in a brownstone and it seems to work just fine.

Posted by: Rookie at July 14, 2008 9:59 AM

Hey, you can still post as guest, because I just did (9:52). I didn't know MTB was filmed in a brownstone, because I didn't watch it, so maybe CG could happen. If so, they will invade Gowanus Yacht Club, that's for sure.

Weird, Carol Gardens. Wonder if it's because you were already logged in as a guest. There's no option to log in as guest anymore...

Posted by: brownstoner at July 14, 2008 10:05 AM

Yeah, I think that was it. But I logged out and relogged in with my name so I will be identifiable from now on...

Making the band is Ghetto.

Posted by: PropJoe at July 14, 2008 10:29 AM

"Ghetto," is a pretty loaded word. The show certainly seems to have produced two successful band, and Puffy knows how to produce compelling TV.

Posted by: Rookie at July 14, 2008 10:54 AM

Puffy Daddy is Ghetto too. He be nuthin' but a punk ass bitch. And who be these 2 successful bands? I be doubtin' any truth to 'dat. What is Farnzworth be up to?

Posted by: PropJoe at July 14, 2008 11:16 AM

I can't believe I'm getting baited into this, but both Danity Kane and Day 26 had #1 albums this year (both in April).

Fonzworth (check the spelling) is, apparently, hosting a new show on MTV that Jamie Foxx is producing.

Posted by: Rookie at July 14, 2008 11:50 AM

Fonzworth is an umbrella boy.

Posted by: PropJoe at July 14, 2008 12:06 PM

I think Puffy is....ANYWAY, back to the topic at hand: MTV should shoot Real World in Clinton Hill. You've got plenty of creative hipster Pratt students, new school locals who like to sip lattes after their morning yoga, and old school residents who are "keeping it real." Its the complete Brooklyn experience in one 'hood.

Like I said before - this location makes no sense for the show. Find something in Williamsburg and get it over with.

Posted by: BrooklynLove at July 14, 2008 1:08 PM

I think Bell Tel REALLY wants this to happen, so they will probably "make it work" as the star of another reality tv show would say.

Posted by: Carol Gardens at July 14, 2008 1:09 PM

Billyburgh is over, son. Downtown, Boerum Hill & Forte Greene is where it be at. Housing prices continue to be going gangbustarhymes in those 'hoods. I know. I live in Forte Green near the Park

Posted by: PropJoe at July 14, 2008 2:18 PM

How about a geodesic dome in Prospect Park? Think Real World meets Biosphere 2.
