80 Dekalb Avenue: Get Ready for Take-Off

80-Dekalb-Avenue-0708.jpg
After several months of seeming inactivity, construction has kicked into high gear at 80 Deklab Avenue, Forest City Ratner's 36-story rental tower. The foundation and basement for the 369-unit building are now finished and the action is moving above the plywood into plain view. Right now, the crew is building the plywood molds around the existing steel beams to pour concrete. According to one of the workers on site, the building's going to start flying up now that they've reached this stage.

I'm no fan of Atlantic Yards but I very bullish on this building.

What does 80 Dekalb have to do with AY?

Ratner

Another horrendous building, brought to you by your local scammer: Ratner.

Is this residential? What a view! That ugly building next door and polluted flatbush screaming with cars. Makes for a relaxing living spot. But there is Fort Green Park only a few blocks up, so that should be a draw. And it is literally one block from the subway.

Dora - what are you talking about? The building is going to be 36 stories and the building isn't even ON Flatbush Ave (unlike Oro, Avalon, Toren and a few others); Except for the people on the real low floors (which are generally used for a lot of the common elements) the views should be amazing and Flatbush won't be heard if you tried.

We know you hate Ratner - just try to use some reality to your criticism.

That ugly building next door which, I believe, contains McD's & Applebee's is destined to be torn down as well as all those fugly buildings near Fulton Mall. It only makes sense as this particular area of FLatbush lay directly between the Oro, Toren, & Metrotech area & the far end is BAM. Flatbush is slowly transforming. Once, the DOT builds some median traffic planters on the street, traffic will decrease a bit as a large majority now becomes 2 lanes in stead of 3. I like what I'm seeing & I'm glad this is a rental

I like this building also. I'm really impressed with what's happening in downtown Brooklyn.

I walked by Toren the other day and really like the skin going up.

What inactivity? This site has had (active) cranes in the street for weeks. It's actually made walking to the Q train a pain. I appreciate the concrete pour update mr b. but this one's been-a-moving for a while. Below grade construction counts too!

How will planters reduce traffic, Joe? Flatbush is still the primary artery to the Manhattan Bridge, and a significant artery to the BKB. The streetscaping will make it look better though.

YP - this site was a ghost town for months until about 2 weeks or so ago.
