StreetLevel: Slope Grocery Build-Out Almost Complete

associated5thave-reno-062008.jpg associated-awning-06-2008.JPG
The expansion of the 5th Avenue Associated between Union and President is nearly finished, and workers say the bigger store should be in business within the next few weeks. Associated took over the two storefronts next door, the old Beso restaurant space and the late, lamented Donuts coffee shop, for its expansion. A new awning was being installed on the building yesterday morning.

As long as they still have free Daily News and Post, I'm there.

They better sell beer or else I'll never forgive the loss of the Donut shop.

Beer (and wine) eases the pain ;-)

Posted by: Mamacita at June 4, 2008 2:38 PM

How are they planning on getting that stale air and bad meat smell into the new space? Maybe they can borrow some from Key Food. They have lots to spare.

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 2:56 PM

Key Food on 5th is very nice.

The Key Food on 7th is 1,000,000 times better after this last year's renovation. MUCH nicer!

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 3:11 PM

Is that recessed lighting they've put in? Oh, the humanity!!! Completely out of context for a dairy section.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 4, 2008 3:42 PM

Hey Biff...where the hell you been?? Very lively discussion y'day on that Bed Stuy HOTD

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at June 4, 2008 3:45 PM

this is a great grocery store.

in a great part of the slope...

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 3:48 PM

They dont sell beer now

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 3:51 PM

Dave, I unfortunately actually had to do some work here at the Death Star for a change. Total bummer.

Regarding Key Foods, not sure about the one on 5th but unfortunately 2:56's got it right with their Montague Street store. I wonder if Trader Joe's is accepting volunteers to help speed along their opening.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 4, 2008 3:56 PM

Each Key Food and Associated are independently owned and operated - they arent a chain they are a buying cooperative.

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 4:00 PM

That Associated was not bad, most of the time. Hopefully this will allow them to better compete w Key Food. Being across from Red White & Bubbly was very convenient.

Posted by: denton at June 4, 2008 4:22 PM

I really miss Beso!

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 4:35 PM

I asked Alex (the owner, I think, maybe just the manager?) a couple years ago why they don't sell beer. I thought he was going to say it was because he was Muslim (never asked him just guessing), but he said it's because of all the hassle of bottle returns that comes with it...

When the expansion was getting started I asked him what he was going to do with all the new space he said something like "experiment" -- apparently he feels that previously he only had enough space to do the things that he knew the neighborhood would find essential -- not enough space to try out new offerings... Now he will be able to rotate in new offerings and see what people bite.

Posted by: phripley at June 4, 2008 6:17 PM

Biff- I really needed you yesterday as I was raked over the coals of hell by some guy who tried to teach me the meaning of Cain and Abel - except he spelled Cain "Cane" and "Kane"-

Have to agree about Key food on Montague. Shopped there many years, always a ewwww. there's one here in CH, actually marginally better than that one. It always surprised me that a dirty, poorly run supermarket in a high end area like that would be tolerated for long. But I guess it is still.

(Yeah- you would have loved the thread on Investment sales too.)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 4, 2008 6:45 PM

bxgrl,
lol, I knew I'd find you here you silly liberal. You need a spellchecker youself.
you spelled "Publically" wrong.
Look it up, then take that pie off your face you poseur.
Call me Legion, for we are many.....

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 9:48 PM

spellcheck: that should read yourself.
peace out.
Legion

Posted by: guest at June 4, 2008 9:50 PM

9:48- I blush- yes I misspelled a word. However I might point out that a typo is a far cry from not knowing the correct spelling of a name known to western Civilization for over 5000 years. (especially by one who claims such an intimate knowledge of the bible- who's the poseur now?)Gosh guy- it's only 4 letters. I guess the pie on your face is cherry cause it's awfully red.

Er- Which legion are you since the real Legion posted after you did (and thank you for that- I had a great laugh).

Still liberal and obviously better educated.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 4, 2008 11:13 PM

Silly bxgrl,
That was me correcting myself. I think you are wound up a bit. Try some prozac for that personality disorder.
I never claimed an "intimate knowledge" of the bible, only an understanding of it. You still don't get it after going through the trouble of obtaining a degree in it.
What does it say about your "better education", that a layman like myself has a better understanding of the implications of religion than you do.
As far as better educated, I kind of doubt it. I have a few degrees myself, but it's not about that, it's about your obsessive and defensive nature; revealed when confronted with an intellectual argument that counters your own world view. That speaks volumes. Look up, schizotypal and paranoid disorders.
By the way, in case you missed it, that whole "Legion...for we are many" quote is from the bible as well. Mark 5:9

Posted by: guest at June 5, 2008 7:42 AM

this will be a good stop for all the park slope stroller moms after they go to the dildo shop

Posted by: guest at June 5, 2008 7:52 AM

Bxgrl, I’m sorry I missed that, but I’m confident you more than held your own, as you’ve proven you can do over and over. As someone who’s been raked over here more times than the Cherry Esplanade at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, I know the feeling! Don't let anyone drag you down. But investment sales and discussions on the bible? Ok, I feel a bit better. Had you told me I missed another Sex and the City or debate on requiring login IDs, I would feel much worse!

Back to the topic. I think the Key Foods is tolerated here due to the lack of choice for groceries, especially since the Gristedes fire (not that Gristedes was much of an alternative let me tell you!) I’m hoping the eventual (fingers crossed) arrival of Trader Joe’s, combined with Sahadi’s, Garden of Eden and Perelandra will allow me to get everything I need without ever having to step into that Key Foods - although I will give them credit for having a (slightly) more friendly staff than the typical New York grocery / drug store.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 8:52 AM

I think Legion could use a dildo.

Posted by: guest at June 5, 2008 8:56 AM

"What does it say about your "better education", that a layman like myself has a better understanding of the implications of religion than you do."

Eh? is bxgirl a rabbi or a priest? Else how are you a layman by comparison?

Iae, a knowledge of the Bible is hardly a pre-requisite to being educated. In case you've forgotten, there are billions of well-educated non-Christians around.

Posted by: cmu at June 5, 2008 9:09 AM

Can you religious hacks take your opiates and get back to the topic of the expanded grocery store?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 9:53 AM

CMU- no bxgrl is not a rabbi or a priest- but guest 7:42 decided to teach me the meaning of the Cain and Abel story on another thread (something he royally mucked up as some blathering on about polytheistic man as puppet establishing his role in the monotheistic universe when he says to G-d, "Am I my brothers keeper"). At the very least if I wanted to look down my nose at someone (who he condemns as a "silly Liberal" by using the bible to establish my moral superiority and societal ethics, I know the correct names.
Guest- oh really??? That was you???? Oh gosh how would I, silly Liberal, not know that? Seeing as you posted less than 2 minutes after the first one. Simply answering you in kind- and of course you didn't get it.

If you want to claim to have a better understanding of the bible, you should have a greater command of your details. And next time try not to use a flawed and weak argument to prove your point (whatever it was regarding my politics). If that makes me a victim of a schizotypal or paranoid disorder, thanks for the diagnosis but it's obvious you've read too many psycho self-help books.

Back to the point; Biff, isn't there still the Atlantic Ave. Key Food? Maybe I was wrong in thinking we were discussing the one on Montague. The At Ave. one was newer and bigger and somewhat cleaner but the aisles were like an obstacle course.
Perelandra was once on Montague St., in the 80's I think and a wonderful little piece left over from the 60's. I used to shop there and after it moved but it was just so expensive. What I'm curious about is why supermarkets are disappearing all over the City. There was an article about it in the papers the other day.

10:16, HILARIOUS!!!! (worthy of four exclamation points).

Hey bxgrl. Yes, there's a Key Food on Atlantic. I've been to it a couple of times. I definitely think it's a bit better than the Montague store, which IS the one I was discussing, so we're on the same page. But I can usually get what I need at the other places I mentioned.

Yes, there was an article on the supermarkets dwindling in the city not long ago. Fortunately, BH and the surrounding areas does have good options (forgot to mention Peas 'n Pickles on Pineapple Walk too). Good to see you back!

Biff- that's a great compliment- thank you. Read your posts on the pre-k thread- agreed with it too. (feel funny about commenting on it as I have no kids - ah, who knows? Maybe I'll stroll over there anyway :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 5, 2008 1:21 PM

Despite this thread having long ago run it's course, it shouldn't be long before a guest tells us to "get a room". Who cares and thanks for the pre-K comment!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 1:41 PM

Wow, bxgrl that school thread is a lively and uncharacteristically civil one, which is great given the importance of the topic. Your post was excellent. I particularly liked your reference to childless people contributing to the community which is what I was getting at in my response to 10:30 in that thread.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 1:57 PM

Biff- it's so nice and quiet over here now- good place to hide out :-). Hmmm.... but you're right- the pre-k thread's a little lively, but still very interesting. I love threads like that.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 5, 2008 2:22 PM

Yeah, I'm hearing crickets chirp and watching tumbleweeds past by. No guests since the JD comment above. Should we just keep our side thread going even after this topic gets lost from the front page and relegated to "click here for last weeks links"?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 2:57 PM

Oh, and congrats on the "home run" you were credited with!! Oddly, they cited your post time of "1:44" vs your "bxgrl" handle...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 2:59 PM

works for me- I meant to ask you- are you having a problem with posts taking forever now to show up, and at night they don't show up until the next day? Very aggravating for conversations.

And thanks-it's something I really wonder about. I've always thought kids are brilliant and imaginative and their brains are developing so fast at that age - they've got no restrictions and I always thought that it must be so important to just let them be. Now, with all the "pre-structuring" we seem to be limiting their options before we teach and they learn how to make choices. On top of the disneyfication of the imagination are we killing the ability to make creative leaps later in life?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 5, 2008 4:20 PM

YES!! I didn't know who to ask here about pages refreshing but not updating comments or showing new stories. Maybe it's a problem with the server, but then I noticed that if and when it finally updates, comments that others have posted over the "blackout" period show up. Interesting to know it's not just me and I'm taking comfort knowing you've experienced the same frustration. It only seems to happen in late afternoon or just around when I leave work.

I agree re: the letting kids be kids, but I also think that can happen in pre-K, where they can socialize and have positive interaction with other kids (without having to be pushed to study the Talmud at 3 years old). On the other hand, I can see the point of why others should pay for pre-K when there are other programs falling by the wayside. It's a tough call. But one thing I notice for sure is the crazy micro-management and over-scheduling by parents these days that feel their brood should be master violinists and sports stars by the age of 5. In my day *cringe* we would play outside all day long and make up our own games, sports, puppet shows etc. until we were called inside for dinner. Kids need some time on their own to develop and express their creativity. I feel so strongly about that.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 4:43 PM

I have a crazy theory that somewhere along the way we got the idea that if we micromanage our lives we will live forever because we can control everything that happens to us.It's this underlying fear of the unknown and the idea that if you control every minute you control the future. But what we get are kids with less creativity, lives with less joy, people with less individuality. It's scary out here- no question. But when i look at kids today I worry so much that not only are they being funnelled into little pre-packaged lives, but those lives might be more like prisons. Everything seems to be more and more about punditry. the whole Homeland Security issue is based on that. Fear, control, micromanage. Just imho.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 5, 2008 5:32 PM

Forgot to tell you- Several other posters not only have the same problem, some of them can't post at all now. The posts just don't show up.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 5, 2008 5:38 PM

That theory doesn't sound so crazy. Perhaps people feel less in control than they did in the last couple of generations (due to reduced job security, skyrocketing housing costs, increased taxes, etc.) and need to find other ways to get some control back, even if it means exerting greater control over their kids. And the initial positive expectations with respect to technology (i.e., computers will make everyone's lives easier and provide more leisure and less work) has resulted in the opposite effect, whereby people are forever handcuffed to their work through their phones and blackberries and end up having to be twice as productive as they were before.

I think it's so tough to be a kid now and have such worry for them, especially considering the damage we've done to the environment, social security mess, deficit due to tragic spending on Iraq and other invasions, etc. Thanks to Bush and his cronies, the problems have been magnified exponentially.

Re: Homeland Security - yeah, people here have heard me rant on that too at times. That's a whole 'nother thread...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 5:50 PM

Ahhh, ok, thanks for that. By the way, of course I don't take pleasure in your frustration, as I seemed to have implied above, just meant it in a "misery loves company" kind of way and felt relieved that it wasn't specific to me or my login (thought maybe Mr. B was blocking my IP Address a la The What).

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 5:53 PM

I can't imagine why he would do that? You've never gone off like the What, but you don't suffer fools gladly either (another argument I had with Mr. Legion- he likes to nitpick semantics). I thought he would do that to me too considering I shot off a few emails to him about stuff that was going on.

Totally agree re Bush. I keep wishing there was a way to charge him with total ineptitude and haul him and his buddies out of office. At least charge him with war crimes for what he's done in Iraq- I think we're responsible for the deaths of more Iraqi civilians than Hussein at this point.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 5, 2008 6:47 PM

Don't you mean I don't suffer fools "lightly"? :-) Yes, I remember that crazy argument too...wow, I really am a bxgrl fan. I could probably put together your top 10 debates in the last week or so.

We're totally on the same page. Bush and his cronies should be charged with war crimes. I despise him with a passion, but realize he likely has little to do with the foreign (or domestic) policy. Of course, this in no way absolves him of the horrible things that have happened throughout his administration. I was in disbelief he won the vote again in 2004. Whenever someone cites the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq (which absolutely a tragedy and I hope the remaining ones there all return safely) I ask that they also remember the 100,000 or so Iraqi civilians who have been murdered. I'll spare you the tirade about the history of human rights abuses by the and international civilian deaths the U.S. has caused. Michael Moore summarized them well at a high level in Fahrenheit 911, which I would guess you've seen, but my heroes Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn do an exceptional job of detailing the atrocious past and present atrocities in so many articles and books.

Ok, bxgrl, this discussion is getting way too serious. I think we need to take a break from the politics, change the topic and get back to our fun-loving, sharp-tongued, witty selves...change of topic?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 5, 2008 7:42 PM

:-) works for me! I think we'll be really really sick of it by November! So do you think that's the real What signing in?

I have to check the school thread too. I'm trying to weasel in a mention of Jean Piaget and child psychology for fun! (Gee- how warped am I? child psychology and fun? Ah well, could be worse- can't wait til they have a thread on pets in Brooklyn- and by the way someone on the sex toy thread posted a brilliantly funny put down of one of the obnoxious posts. If you haven't seen it you should look- it was laugh out loud funny)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 6, 2008 12:22 AM

Whoa, I just re-read my last post above and must apologize for the poorly written rambling. Clearly my strong feelings on the subject impaired my already questionable eloquence. Fortunately, this is a blog, it is not a basic grammar course and you seem to be benevolent (at least being patient enough to suffer this fool).

Not so warped to want to discuss Piaget. He's a fascinating topic: student of Freud, dismissed religious arguments, came up with the stages of cognitive development and I seem to remember often wore those cool John Lennon glasses!

Ok, off to check out the Babeland comment...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 6, 2008 8:31 AM

Checked out the Babeland thread (damn, I hate when I miss a Babeland discussion). Not sure exactly which post you mean since there were a few witty ones. But I cannot believe nobody bit on 9:59's "What is up everyone's butt?" Are you kidding me? That was one of the best setup lines in the history of Brownstoner Babeland discussions!!! Damn, why did work have to get in my way that day?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 6, 2008 8:55 AM

My favorite was the one about the 3 day old wedding balloons. I had to sit down I laughed so hard.

I know! I know!- I kept thinking Biff is going to jump on this and -gentle sobbing here- you didn't come to save us...sniff...

I wouldn't worry about the rambling- if I were of the caliber of a Shakespeare, or a Steinbeck I could afford to be a literary snob. Unfortunately and sadly, far from the case. But I have found a huge help in my Mozilla browser (IE7 just would not work), finally switched to Firefox and the lovely thing comes with a spell checker!

Do they still teach Piaget? Or does everyone still think Spock is the last voice on child everything (and who I think should have been kicked back to Vulcan to live long and prosper and not raise children). I could be wrong but it was like Piaget was a poet and Spock wrote for the Post, and people still confused them.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 6, 2008 11:13 AM

That's the one to which I suspected you were referring but wasn't certain.

Are you saying you can now spell and/or grammar check your posts (without copying them into Word or some other similar program)? Whoa, that's a geeky anal blog poster's wet dream!

It's been a couple of years since I took Psychology 101 (just a couple), so not sure what the kids are learning these days. I would have to think his theories are so intelligent and relevant that they would have to still be teaching them.

Forget Spock (and you so beat me to the Star Trek reference)! I think Dr. Phil and Oprah are the voice for the majority of people on how to live one's life - SCARY!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 6, 2008 11:33 AM

Ewwwwww...... I hate Dr. Phil. Can we say smarmy?

Try Mozilla- I haven't had any trouble with it, it's open source and gives you all kinds of things IE7 won't do for another 10 years and it still looks and feels like IE so there's no learning curve. Got tabs, much more control over how it runs and a little add on called iris that lets you peek ahead to other pages without opening them or having to nevigate off the one you're on. A much cleaner program (oh G-d!!!!!!!!!!!I sound so anal geeky- how can you ever forgive me??!)

Now I am off to hunt Legion- he's threatening to put lapel pins on all of us .

Posted by: bxgrl at June 6, 2008 2:04 PM

Hey, I replied awhile back but just checked and don't see it here. Something about hating Dr. Phil too - the overweight, soon-to-be-divorced "celeb" who self-righteously tells everyone else how to get in shape and improve their marriages.

Maybe it's that time of day when posts get losts and pages freeze...although the other threads seem ok...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 6, 2008 3:29 PM

I also said a bunch of stuff about IE7, but anyway...any luck Legion-hunting? That guy (I assume all faded type jerks are guys) is such a jerk, but I have to admit to laughing at his threat to put lapel pins on us!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 6, 2008 3:38 PM

I think it seems like Mr. B may have fixed the problem for the new posts because I'm not having a problem with the new ones from today. If in fact someone was manually checking posts (how neanderthal!) for bad words on only some threads then we may have to find a more updated room once those get archived because they may freeze posts on this one. B'stoner could really use a good webmaster who knows how to do this stuff. MM has the same problem with posts sometimes not showing up- he/she said that the other day.

Mr. Legion hasn't really been playing. :-( I think too many people ganged up on him and called him a republican shill :-)

He loved the Riaquis thing- I guess he thought he was going to make himself look good on that one.

So are you going to check out firefox? You can uninstall it if you don't like it but I don't think I'll ever go back to IE. And if I can ever get a mac, it's out the window iwth windows. Too bloated, too messy.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 6, 2008 5:14 PM

wow- I just posted and there was no wait time at all! He must have got so many complaints. How's yours working?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 6, 2008 5:15 PM

Good thinking bxgrl, we may need a contingency plan in case this disappears. We seem to have managed to sneak away without a trace, but who knows? There's probably some wannabe vindictive b@stard reading this (Legion perhaps?) waiting until we say something particularly juicy that he can throw back at us in a current thread. It wouldn't surprise me. I've had faded typers try to troll me using things I've said way in the past. Like when I posted an email address with Jerri in it - even though there's nothing to hide, trolls keep trying to throw it back at me thinking it'll scare me for some bizarre reason. Speaking of which, maybe we should create and exchange a couple of emails for the contingency planning! At least it would be easier than meeting back here. :-)

Anyway, posting seems refreshingly problem-free today.

I can check out Firefox at home, but I don't use my computer often at home and I can't get away from IE7 at work. My friends with Macs absolutely love them and say they would never go back. I haven't yet taken that plunge. I got a laugh the other weekend when I went to check out Gorilla Coffee on 5th Ave in PS. It was everything I imagined from reading here. The melodramatic barrista muttering under his breath at customers whose orders he himself screwed up and no less than 7 hipsters typing away on their portable Macs! It was amusing...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 6, 2008 5:37 PM

We should do that-I'll ask Jon to forward mine to you (heaven forfend Legion should get hold of it!!) er...you aren't Legion is disguise are you? :-) Well, if you are, I should tell you the truth- I'm really the What. Yes, I know... who would have thought it?

So is the melodramatic barrista like a caffeinated soup nazi? Don't you love how Macs are now a trend too? Love the ads from mac- the pc guy looks like a pudgy Bill Gates too.

And did you read the 3:17 post from Brooklynnative on the Red nabes lose thread? I totally agree and I'm sure I'll get hooted off after they read my post. But it was just too tempting not to.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 6, 2008 7:44 PM

bxgrl, no need to put Mr. B on the spot. I just took up Bold type guest on his ingenius suggestion and set up an email that is strictly for use for this blog. And the next time the Biff troll brings it up thinking he has so much info to use against me, I'll post it again and record the more ridiculous stuff I receive (which I'm sure will be all emails except for yours!), including any that the Republican shill, lapel-pinning Legion might send. It's biffchampion@yahoo.com. And have no fear, I promise on the Bible (which I'm sure I have even less than a layman's knowledge of), my beloved parents, Jean Piaget, Judy Blume and Harpo Marx that I will never post your email handle. It couldn't be safer than if it was being protected by the Department of Homeland Security (ok, sorry, that was meant to comfort and not worry you).

Ha ha, YES, the melodramatic barrista may very well be this generation's answer to the Soup Nazi!

How about the weather today, by the way. I was sweating like Mike Tyson at a spelling bee! I lost more water than Sally Struthers in a sauna! And apparently the naked guy in the subway was yelling, 'Who's crazy now?'! And I had to apply sunblock before going to the bathroom! Ok, you get the idea...I hope you're staying cool.

I'll reply later...thanks for sending! And thanks for tolerating the cornball humor above that would have made Shecky Green blush during his Catskills stop along the Borscht Belt tour.

Yeah, how about that guest coming out of nowhere to defend you? Intriguing...

I'll alert Tom and Katie about the aliens. They'll surely be interested in the information...and stop calling them Shirley. Ok, the chain gang is about to leave, I've gotta go break up some rocks in the hot sun. Talk soon...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 9, 2008 9:50 AM

Ouch, speaking of unedited English, I meant to type that we now have to click "two" times. I realized after I hit the "Post" button and had that slow motion, terrified "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" silent scream going that one sees in the movie as it disappeared into posting oblivion.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 9, 2008 9:53 AM

Sounds like sunstroke! (Or is it that listening to a Shecky Green routine could give you sunstroke? Or make you wish for sunstroke)Oh wait- I think that was the image of Sally Struthers in a sauna that did it.

I love the "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" silent scream - I use it all the time- it describes so much of my life, in a sponge bobby/ patricky kind of way. Yes- I confess. Cartoon lover here. Mistakes are a part of life- I got that- it's just the agony of reliving them in slow motion instead of having them zip by like mosquitoes. You know, sting, itch, calomine, you're done!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 9, 2008 10:33 AM

Thanks for the two consecutive Sally references, bxgrl! Now I can't get out of my head the image of her in a sauna. I'm thinking that we can combat high gas prices and our overdependence on coal by simply putting a bucket under Sally. That could produce enough hydroelectric power for all of us with extra left over to sell to Palau. And think of the tourist dollars we could make giving Niagara Falls a run for it's money.

I'm not familiar with Sponge Bob, although I've been accused of having square pants. Actually, most of my wardrobe would likely be considered pretty square by the hipster fashionistas at Gorilla Coffee. Yeah, reliving mistakes is particularly a prevalent experience here where one false move is jumped on by the guests like a pack of hyenas going after a wounded buffalo calf!

"Sting, itch, calomine" - yes, why can't all life's problems be reduced to those simple three steps?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 9, 2008 12:11 PM

I guess I don't have to mention George bush and the compost problem he could solve singlehandedly?

Think of your experience here as an indication that you're doing something right- Look how they hounded Montrose Morris, and NOP. I have to wonder what possesses people to troll. I mean, what kind of satisfaction can someone possibly get from being a moron? There's no real desire to teach anything or learn anything. Or even speak up or out. It's like they live to troll- can't be much of a life. crown Heights Proud once called the troll- I wish I had kept it-it started out with pimple-faced and went through a series of ever increasingly and hysterically funny mutations until it ended on a triumphant note of your mother's basement eating from one of the broken bags of chips surrounding your chair. Or some such- I have to find it for you.

So my 3 step program could be good right? Less steps than the traditional 12 point and you end up a lovely shade of pepto-pink which adds a lovely decorative touch when it starts to crumble off. Pink is a really hot color these days too. (Maybe if some of your square pants were pink you could impress people and influence hyenas!)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 9, 2008 12:59 PM

I really have no answer to your trolling question. I've been a moron for many years now (I think I inherited it from my Uncle Irving - you know, the one who thought he would strike it rich selling solar powered flashlights?) and I can assure you it's given me no satisfaction whatsoever.

I'm sorry I missed the Crown Heights Proud post to which you referred. Actually, it seems I've been on this blog a long time yet I've never seen that login. Are you sure he/she didn't end the post with a mention of two trolls continually going to an old page to discuss things amongst themselves? Which of course begs the question of why I told you to email me at an address I never use or check. But I digress... :-) That won't give you a complex will it?

By the way, I look pretty in pink, I'll have you know! Pretty what is another story...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 9, 2008 2:01 PM

Biff, biff,biff- we are ogres, not trolls.:-) I had an uncle Irving too, well, a cousin more like- brilliant guy tho'. Worked for Albert Einstein. And no....no complex.....sniff...sniff (This is where I take my arm and drag it across my already running nose just before I burst into mournful sobbing).

CHP still posts but under a different name but hasn't lately because of the same site problems we were having. Posts weren't showing up. Hope they fixed that.

OK- I am getting hit on the AY thread this morning. My socially conservative troll has decided to attack again. Must be Mr. Legion. when you have a chance go have fun.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 9, 2008 2:39 PM

Are you serious? I also had a cousin who worked for Albert Einstein. Or was it Albert Finney. Or Albert Schweitzer. No, no, I'm pretty sure it was...OH WAIT! I'm sorry, it was Fat Albert. Yeah, that's who it was. His name was Marvin and he was born in Abu Dhabi, but he went by the name Mushmouth and spoke Ubbi Dubbi.

But enough about that...I'm off to the AY Post to rubber neck at the bloodshed...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 9, 2008 3:01 PM

Well, I'm so proud of you. You got the Albert right. You know, your Uncle Irving could have been onto something. I had a cousin who tried to open up a wild west theme park. (somehow L.I. Jews just do not have great luck wearing western boots and and spurs. Not to mention you can't keep a yarmulke on when you're breaking a horse. If you can even ride a horse- and he couldn't)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 9, 2008 4:17 PM

Oh bxgrl, today's been uber crazy. I just got off a two hour conference call. I didn't post one thing today (other than my messages to you) and it feels quite odd to not have anyone insult my humor, question my sexual orientation, tell me they used to enjoy the blog until I ruined it for them, hold me responsible for Hurricane Katrina, etc. I didn't even get to read the AY thread where you said you took a beating...just as well, I can't stand to see you upset!

A Jew opening up a theme park? Oy gevalt! I can't imagine it. Would the Tilt-A-Whirl be renamed the Guilt-A-Whirl? A ride that spins you around and around as you listen to an old woman who plays the role of your Bubby giving you crap for not calling her often enough?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 9, 2008 6:27 PM

I just sprayed water through my nose! Guilt-a-whirl- omigod- think of the possibilities. If i wasn't so knocked out from the heat I would so go there- but of course you ruined this thread for me by posting!

2 hour conference calls- sound like so much fun.Well, they better let you out to play tomorrow- trying to pretend MR. legion has a modicum of wit is taxing my imagination too much.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 9, 2008 8:18 PM

Hey, the water through the nose thing is a cool trick. Maybe you can work the funhouse at your cousin's Jewish theme park! I can hear the barker now, "COME SEE THE PINKO COMMIE BLOGGER WHO CAN SHOOT MORE WATER THROUGH HER NOSE THAN SALLY STRUTH..." ok, enough with the Sally references. We can get Bob Barker to be the barker. He can end every speech with, "AND PLEASE REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR PETS AND CHILDREN SPAYED AND NEUTERED!" Or, perhaps the NYFD would be interested in this talent of yours. It could be used in emergency situations involving dysfunctional hydrants.

Looking like another busy and dire day here at the Death Star. Perhaps I can sneak away and post lovey dovey pleasantries for which I'll be duly lambasted. Either way, I'll check back here for sure. Talk soon...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 10, 2008 7:25 AM

If you have to have a talent in life, have a good one. I always say! too bad i have never been able to figure out how to get rich with it. Life on the deathstar- gotta be tough. All those guys with techno-voices who squeeze your neck wirelessly. I have visions of you in Darth gear wandering the halls of labor (well, actually, looking more like a hilarious Rick Moranis, bouncing off door jambs).

Check in later- for heaven's sake post! The hyena pack is hungry.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 10:20 AM

A hilarious Rick Moranis? Isn't that redundant? But give me a bit more credit, please. Don't let my nebbish posts serve as any indication of my looks, which I dare say are at least as good as Eugene Levy's!

Yes, I've joined in for a bit in the "Bearish" thread for a little fun with Bold type guest, who's hilarious. Come on over!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 10, 2008 11:14 AM

Jumping in with both feet! I already picked on you in fun.

Don't you think Bold Type has multiple personalities? i was thinking eve but as time goes on, he gets more Sybil

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 12:07 PM

ok- just lost my temper big time on that thread

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 1:32 PM

I saw that and grinned. I have my theories about bold type guest, but like the fact he's funny, has some relevant posts and usually provokes responses. Regrettably, I've once again left the blog; had a lunch I couldn't get out of and now an inbox that's piling so high I can barely see out of my office door. But wanted to check in and say hi again. So "hi again". :-)

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 10, 2008 2:47 PM

back at ya!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 3:40 PM

omigod- Biff!!!!!!! go take a look

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 4:13 PM

whoa, crazy crazy day! ok, finally going now for a peek, but can't look for too long. it's all probably old news now...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 10, 2008 5:40 PM

Oh my, it got nasty in there! But what did the guest at 5:49 mean by "agruing skills"? Is that a measure of one's prowess in both the agriculture and manufacturing sectors? And why the toilet cleaning obsession? Does he have that much of a problem hitting the bowl?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 10, 2008 6:02 PM

I myself think that agruing must have something to do with farming, or something Scottish- you know, we'll go no more agruing?

I'm playing with these guys- They may have half a brain between the two of them and their families but they seriously need to take a debate class. It's like shooting fish in a barrel- or..er...a toilet :-). I have so been waiting to say that!!!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 6:41 PM

You're missing out on all the fun. I have been very very persnickety- even the What told me to behave!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 10, 2008 8:43 PM

Persnickety...what an interesting word...more meetings today at the Death Star (you know, typical Rebel Alliance gatherings to determine how best to deal with the stormtroopers). Will try to join in a couple of frays, time permitting.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 8:49 AM

So What, a stupid bxgrl is a woman? You really think? I can't figure out if she/he is too dumb to figure out what she says is totally the opposite of what she means or she's just that mentally challenged. I mean what can you say about someone who says I called her a Nazi- was I saying she was anything other than a white person? Uuuhhhh, uck uck......

Have fun at the death star- Hope the rebel base on dantooee (sp.?) stays safe.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 11, 2008 10:49 AM

No, I don't believe it. I think it's a guy just trying to come up with anything to make you look bad. I haven't even gone in there today. Coming up for air now, but will have to dive back into the work soon. It's really cramping my blogging activities, this work I have...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 12:10 PM

No, I don't believe it. I think it's a guy just trying to come up with anything to make you look bad. I haven't even gone in there today. Coming up for air now, but will have to dive back into the work soon. It's really cramping my blogging activities, this work I have...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 12:11 PM

You're probably right- I actually don't love responding to this guy but i go into defense mode - which i have to say I do well- but I've also got this stubborn streak. Not that i have to win, but that I have to stand my ground. I'll back down to make a situation better, but I hate bullies.

How come work is so intense lately?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 11, 2008 12:33 PM

Work comes in waves. When I'm busy, I'm super-busy. When I'm not, I post here 200 times or so a day! Have a huge report I'm wading through now that will take me a couple of hours...yech...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 2:18 PM

I'm playing. Getting fire from all sides but i have my defenders! Now if I can just get my x-wing down that alley and shoot the detonating device into the chute....

Posted by: bxgrl at June 11, 2008 4:48 PM

I've jumped into the fray a bit more along with Bold type guest. I finally had a bit of time to write something! Come join...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 5:35 PM

I just did! I have to say, it almost feels like this guy is just going through the motions because he really is so not smart. And I think he also posts as benson (check the Wednesday link thread). Same kind of logic (or lack thereof).

Posted by: bxgrl at June 11, 2008 6:16 PM

That was fun. What a Stupid Troll brought me back to life on the blog today...time to slide down the dinosaur and call it a day now.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 6:34 PM

Yeah, he's saying all the boilerplate insults with not much more. But it was fun getting in a few shots.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 11, 2008 6:36 PM

we should try a day to totally ignoring him while posting. I get the feeling the more we laugh at him the less he gets out of it. but it was fun. Just not as much fun when he keeps repeating the same stuff- no challenge. At least when he does his benson, I got in a discussion about religion and the constitution.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 11, 2008 7:02 PM

Sounds good to me. I'm quite busy again but will drop in to see if anything interesting is happening.

Is What, a Stupid bxgrl = Benson = Legion = various other stupid guests?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 12, 2008 12:11 PM

could be- awww just missed you!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 12, 2008 12:19 PM

I'm getting the old page freeze going again. Can't see any new posts, stories, etc. Hate when that happens!

Do you think we'll get to 200 posts in this thread?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 12, 2008 1:14 PM

Probably. I was out for a few hours and the troll seems to have slunk into his cave for the day. Probably lying in wait for tomorrow.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 12, 2008 8:13 PM

Maybe the troll got called back to the mental ward or left like he threatened to do. We can only hope, although it is fun to bash him.

How's your day so far? Haven't seen you post much, not that I have either.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 13, 2008 12:06 PM

I have been, actually. when was the last time you checked? Love the cat on the ATM. Put in more than my 2 cents worth on the CH rally thread too.

Am off to weasel a sandwich out of my landlord. I know when she eats lunch!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 13, 2008 1:37 PM

Go back to the rally, Bold type guest and I are having fun with your troll.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 13, 2008 1:55 PM

you guys are so cool!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 13, 2008 4:24 PM

I thought I would tone it down, but it's too much fun!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 13, 2008 5:14 PM

so I see. I like this kinder, gentler incarnation but you are just too nice to him. I realize you're making an ethical and moal judgement here but we need the Evil Biff to fight for truth, justice and the right to change into spandex in a phone booth.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 13, 2008 5:29 PM

I think I misspelled a couple of words because I was having too much fun typing!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 13, 2008 5:30 PM

My word, that was a busy afternoon of troll bashing! I'm out of here soon. Have a great weekend bxgrl...maybe see you on this link at some point?

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 13, 2008 5:55 PM

you bet!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 13, 2008 6:06 PM

You must be busy- I'm having fun on the renters come to b'klyn thread this morning.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 16, 2008 11:58 AM

Yeah, it's not settling down for me today. I'll try to check in later. I knew that article from the Times this weekend would be on here...Mr. B must lick his chops when he sees something like that on the cover of the weekend Real Estate section!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 16, 2008 12:42 PM

Yeah, busy with work but just chimed in on that thread. Mr. B must have been very happy to see that cover story in the Real Estate Section of the NY Times this weekend. Surefire post-inducing story.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 16, 2008 1:18 PM

oops, just posted same thing again as the first one didn't go through for a long time and thought I messed up the post.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 16, 2008 1:20 PM

would love for hi to fix the posting problems- Montrose tell me they still can't post- even when they tried a different account. I think the isp might be the problem, not B'stoner?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 16, 2008 1:26 PM

was pout for awhile- i can't believe some of the real stupidity on the renters thread. One person says if you don't own a home you have no pride, you don't care about your family or making memories- I am nearly (unbelievable, no?) speechless. some set of values these people have. And of course my troll is still following me everywhere.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 16, 2008 5:07 PM

I'm now having issues posting here! I was saying I'm done for today with your troll. I only posted one thing so far and it was in response to his attack on you. Doesn't he have anything better to do or say? I guess not.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 16, 2008 5:08 PM

Ok, I'm having mucho problemos posting here today. I keep trying to respond, but...nothing...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 16, 2008 5:53 PM

did you write brownstoner? I know Montrose wrote. I've had a few problems but nothing major. How come the troll keeps getting through, I wonder. I'm ignoring the troll(s) as much as possible but its not as much fun without you there.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 16, 2008 8:00 PM

No, I didn't write Brownstoner. It just happened here a couple of times, so it's probably fine.

:-) I'll try to participate a bit today, if time permits. I went on briefly and chuckled at a couple of BTG's one-liners.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 17, 2008 9:53 AM

I am debating about keeping on posting. they're getting so nasty and it's not much fun. for some reason Polemicist went after me on the bitter owner/renter thread and he sounds a hell of a lot like bizarro

Posted by: bxgrl at June 17, 2008 10:21 AM

I saw that. I'm really wondering if Polemicist is the troll(s). I don't think so based on his post - no mention of kitty litter or Hostos CC - but it was odd he turned on you like that. It would be sad if you left.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 17, 2008 10:55 AM

One thing to know about the trolls- they post trying to sound like different people. Yeah- it made no sense.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 17, 2008 11:43 AM

I guess you're taking a break (or busy). I've been on more today than in the last few days. And not one encounter with a troll yet. I must be doing something wrong...

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 17, 2008 5:11 PM

Polemicist seems to making up for it. The troll must be working- who the hell would hire him?!-Awwwwww- don't feel bad. would it make you feel better if I signed in as guest and picked on you?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 17, 2008 5:49 PM

I finally got trolled in the Biggie thread, but it was disappointing - nothing I could get really into. I might need you to be a guest and troll me today; I'll keep you posted on that one.

Today is hectic! Just here to say hi. Will try joining some thread later.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 18, 2008 10:59 AM

I think our troll must have died or moved. He's been really quiet for the last few days- maybe Mr. B blocked him?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 18, 2008 4:03 PM

I-blush blush- made quote of the day- blush

Posted by: bxgrl at June 18, 2008 5:09 PM

Re: troll - not sure about yours but I'm having a blast today in the Fugly thread. You joined briefly but left? I had no idea Dave was BTG, did you?

Re: Quote - AWESOME BXGRL!! I wish I saw that, I would have chimed in on your behalf. Thanks for telling me, I'll go look.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 19, 2008 11:53 AM

Was out freely roaming the city- just got back

Posted by: bxgrl at June 19, 2008 5:00 PM

did you see the fugly link? it's crazy in there. I'm trollminating left, right and center. I'm laughing at all the guests saying how much they hate me but the can't stop posting! And I've been compared to you a few times. Works for me!

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 19, 2008 5:52 PM

What you talkin bout Troll ?

Posted by: guest at June 19, 2008 8:40 PM

Ah- look Biff, we have a guest :-) Offer him a sandwich!

I did see- you and Dave had a great time I take it. I was just too tired to play much- but I did post on the firehouse thread.

Posted by: bxgrl at June 19, 2008 9:06 PM

hello!!! You're not in hotel.
Snap out of it. You lonely bird!!

Posted by: guest at June 19, 2008 9:17 PM

omigod! this isn't the Ritz-Carlton??? Damn GPS system must not be working again.

so...you don't want a sandwich?

Posted by: bxgrl at June 19, 2008 9:33 PM

keep the sandwich. You need a partner and doctor. You're delusional Bx. I think it's pretty sad that you and biff are hiding out in an old thread flirting. Dont you know he's a married ham?

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 9:46 AM

losers losers losers losers losers losers

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 1:13 PM

wow. this is one of the saddest threads I've ever seen.

Manitoba

aka dave

Suck it.

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 2:12 PM

Biff, by the way, your penis is just as small as it was when we were in college.

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 2:15 PM

Biff, I cant belive you still tryin to get some pussy cat nip. You fat 40 yr old Virgin. You got zero game!

bxgirl have you no honor?

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 6:07 PM

none :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 20, 2008 6:17 PM

So good to see I got to you bxgrl. You are the biggest liar and loser.

And coming to this thread to chat with Biff. Are you 3 years old? Don't you two have MySpace pages you can use?

- Bizarro What

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 6:47 PM

If you say so :-)

Posted by: bxgrl at June 20, 2008 6:54 PM

bxgrl, what on earth took the guest troll losers so long to get here? They think they're heroes for finding a thread that has consistently been identified as active for over two weeks. It's soooo sad. The odd thing is how long it took them. The unsurprising thing is they have all gone through 145 comments, yet say what losers we are.

They will never understand that the true losers are those who claim to hate us but wade through 145 of our comments here. We're dealing with morons who I got to post over 300 times in a thread where they said we've ruined the blog, they are going to ignore me, I'm done, etc. And I haven't checked out any other threads today, but guarantee they're still talking about me in my absence. I've proven they're obsessed and I'm debating continuing to post here to show I can drive up even a two week old thread to 200+ posts anytime I want. They get trollminated every time and don't know what hit them. If I decide not to continue in this thread, we'll meet in the other spot.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 20, 2008 7:16 PM

Oh yeah, and to prove how completely idiotic they are, I bet they continue to claim Dave, me, you, BTG, Nokilissa, Heather, etc. are all the same. It's astounding how dumb they are.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 20, 2008 7:18 PM

the vulcan mind meld is still working- the did and they do.

But think of the power you and Dave hold over them- the need to follow you around and harass us. Because they can't think for themselves and can't contribute an intelligent thought to a thread.

See you in the other cyberspace!

Posted by: bxgrl at June 20, 2008 7:48 PM

bxgrl, the only problem with a vulcan mind meld is one first needs to find the mind, which is very difficult, albeit not impossible with guest troll puppets who have not one original thought. See you soon.

Posted by: Biff Champion at June 20, 2008 8:39 PM

dude take off the wig. it's really not that serious. It's just a blog, this multiple log in thing is scary.

Posted by: guest at June 20, 2008 9:57 PM

You two are the sadest sacks. You make Dave look sane and smart.

We hold the power over you, sweet cheeks. If we actually ignored you, you would be left to cybersex with your married bf, Biffy. Buy a sex toy and move on.

You two are total trolls. You search dormant threads so you can post in secret.

Trolls.
