Gowanus Playground Fenced Off for Pollutant Dig

thomas-greene-fence-06-2008.jpg
About a quarter of Thomas Greene playground has been fenced off so that National Grid can dig underneath the Parks Dept. facility and see how polluted it is. The playground sits on a site once occupied by the Fulton Manufactured Gas Plant. Most of the playground, which is off 3rd Avenue between Douglass and Degraw streets, is still open to the public, and yesterday workers were filling up its swimming pool.

Swimming pool is not being filled up -- it's being prepared for its grand opening this Saturday!

Friends of the D-G Park (I don't know much about them, but maybe they'll pipe up!) are holding a twilight swim party this Saturday, with lots of fun things for kids and grownups to do.

At the considerable risk of being inundated by Carroll Parkians and Park Slopers, which is no doubt inevitable, ALL are invited to join the neighborhood at this hidden gem of a free swimming hole, all summer long!
