Development Watch: Whole Hog at Albee Square
The interior demolition of the Albee Square Mall has been wrapped up for a few weeks now and the structure itself is now being dismantled. The mixed-use project, dubbed City Point, is slated to include 900,000 square feet of rental apartments, 500,000 square feet of retail and 125,000 square feet of Class A office space. The project was never intended to take advantage of 421-a so the looming deadline is a non-issue.

Build this new mall faster please! We need the room for two more Payless shoe stores. Another Duane Reade. Another Foot Locker and a few new Sprint stores.

if they bring back Forever21 I'll be so happy.

They aren't building a new mall. You are just another uninformed idiot. Why not check the website for city point?

How about putting Whole Foods there? Makes much more sense (with all the public transportation and the underground parking) than the Gowanus fiasco.

should make for nice background in Real World shots.

Whole Foods there would be dope. The grocery scene is severely lacking in this area (Pathmark is gross).

I think a Show World would do wonderful business! With all of the luxury condo development, there will be plenty of Wall St. types, plus bacheor parties. Bring it on!

"The project was never intended to take advantage of 421-a so the looming deadline is a non-issue."
So why mention it?

Why are developers spending so much to build in this area? There is nothing here in the area for would-be rich folk moving in here. The only fine dining is a grey's papaya or KFC. You can't even come out of your apartment at night for fear of muggings or rapings from the local animals who dwell there. The only area for shopping is fulton st. which a mess of arabs selling fake gold jesus pieces and sneaker stores. They're luxury condos surrounded by a jungle.

ohhhkay 2:35, that's one point of view. you can go back to Kansas now

2:35, I expect you to be in front of the television tonite with a pistol in your mouth listening to Barack Obama get the nomination to become our next President.
The day of the Racist Whiteman is numbered.
Now... if only we can work on that Al Sharpton!

2:35, are you aware this is the second safest precint in the city? your hood is no doubt less safe. just FYI. best of luck with your bitter life.

Am I wrong? I walk down fulton ave and this is what see. Dr. Jays, 3 different chains of sneakers, McDonalds, KFC, a store that sells 2 hotdogs and 1 drink for $2, arabs selling fake jesus pieces, 99 cent stores, lots of people with hair weaves, baggy shirts, caps tilt to the side and the never ending smell of cocoa butter. Who would want to move into a luxury condo when the neighborhood itself is a warzone? This place is disgusting.
3:40pm - I hope Obama wins. He doesn't look like the dregs that roam fulton ave. I wish everyone in downtown Brooklyn looked like Obama. maybe there would be a reason to move to brookln.

What's up with the constant bashing of midwestern states? 2:35 was probably born and raised in NYC.
Two hot dogs and a soda for only $2? Now that's a deal!

2.35 bought in Jersey City or LIC and is just feeling bitter about his choice.

First, it's sad the Albee Square is now coming down. I always liked visiting it in the 1980s. And the last time I visited it was a year or so ago when there were barely any stores left.
But to the anonymous asshat:
"Who would want to move into a luxury condo when the neighborhood itself is a warzone?"
It's not a warzone. Just different stores.

To Jackhat
These are stores that are commonly found in warzones.

Everyone is missing the point. What the neighborhood is and what it will be are 2 very different things. The people moving to DoBro are looking forward on what's to come, not on a bygone era. Unrecognizable in 3-5 yrs. Quote me.

I lived over there for close to 20 years- hardly a war zone. Fulton St. is one of the most successful commercial strips in Brooklyn and business thrives there- without the fancy chain stores and before the luxury hotels came. If the only way someone like 2:35/4:57 would go to Fulton St. is if it becomes "sanitized", then perhaps he should consider going to any one of a number of such upscale communities that already exist. A caveat- judging by the quality of his discourse I tend to think he would be looked on as trailer trash in those neighborhoods. But to each his own. I find nothing wrong with people who start their own businesses and work hard to be successful- there's a lot of them in the Albee Sq. Mall area and most of the small businesses, unfortunately, will most likely get driven out now.
