I was really impressed with the Victorian Flatbush House Tour this year. It was one of the best house tours I've been on, period. They really outdid themselves. Kudos to those who participated.

I don't think it's fair to expect Mr. B to dedicate a full feature to every house tour. The Victorian Flatbush has always been an 'anchor' of the season, so I think it makes sense to dedicate a feature to it (and no, I don't live in VF). Doing a feature here and there on other tours is certainly cool, but Mr. B only has a limited amount of bandwidth to work with guys.

I don't think it's that brownstoner readers aren't interested in the VF house tour. Rather, it's that there are a few people on this board who will make 50 posts about anything relating to their own nabes. And believe me, it does NOT make for interesting reading.

I am sorry that I missed this tour this year as this is one of my favorites. It was just too hot. I know that a lot of work goes into planning them and the homeowners are so gracious to open their homes to the public.

He has a staff, they should do the house tours and write something. It's once a year or even every other year. Not that taxing and definitely more relevant to the blog than other stuff written up here. Who cares about this endless 3rd and Bond crap anyway? Does anyone actually read those posts?

I went on the brownstone garden tour. Most of it was pretty good.

Here is what I posted in a earlier topic about the tour:

It was just so darn hot out, I was not inspired to take many photos. I only snapped a few and don't have them posted yet.

There were some really great original woodwork features on several of the houses.
One of my favorites was house with third floor that your reach via a hidden stairway behind a book case.

The lobby of the Apartment building (one of the stops on the tour) had fantastic ceiling detailing and great mosaic tiles. It's one of the few places I did take photos, since there was no one there to tell me I couldn't take photos.

But the actual apartment was nothing spectacular, don't know why they had it on the tour? Maybe to give people flavor of what the numerous apartment building in the area are like?

Most of the houses on the tour were OK from the outside, but more interesting from the inside and the intact period details. Lots of great stained glass, wood trim, inlaid floors, pocket doors, fireplaces with glazed ceramic tile surrounds and carved wood mantels. Quite a few nifty bench seats and inglenooks.

These Victorian Flatbush neighborhoods have got to be the most beautiful in Brooklyn. The area lacks the ammenities of many of the Brownstone neighborhoods and the proximity to the city but hands down still the most beautiful. Many of the exteriors seemed to have been recently painted which was refreshing but even homes with siding weren't that bad. The streets were made for strolling and there was a real small town feel. Despite the heat, I saw people out on their porches which were shaded by the trees.

The apartment was probably on the tour to show that their are well established co-ops in the area for people who like the area but don't necessarily want to live in a large house. Has me rethinking my options.
