Streetlevel: Olivino To Open Wine Bar on Fulton

olivino-wine-bar-0508.jpg
Clinton Hill wine merchant Olivino is getting close to opening a wine bar at 899 Fulton Street, two doors down from its original location. (There's a second location in Bed Stuy.) According to founder Katrine Pollari, the bar will serve beer, olives and charcuterie in addition to a purposefully affordable list of by-the-glass wines. Barring unforeseen delays, the Olivino wine bar, which Pollari hopes will be a real neighborhood gathering place, could be open within the next four or five weeks. Man, does Fulton need this!

Need? Fulton needs to get re-paved, fulton needs to get done with street construction and the one way closure at clinton, fulton needs a better police presence considering the murder a few doors down or the recent drive by at putnam and fulton. Need-maybe a want but not a need.

is the glass gonna be bullet proof? that is the need

Anyway a praiseworthy move. I am going to try and support them.

who cares!

Excellent!
I love olivino - they have affordable wines and a friendly neighborly attitude.

Kudos for offering beer as well!

oooh, this might be dangerous, being directly between my apartment and the subway and all. Olivino has always been extremely friendly and laid back (more so than the wine shops further north)...a wine bar with a similar vibe here would be fantastic.

Great! 2 more years and we wont recognize fulton anymore, this was about time that would happen, good luck! I can't wait.

Beer on tap? If so, I rescind my reservations.

I agree that beer would be a wonderful addition - if it turns out to be true, this Prospect Heights resident will gladly trek across Atlantic, especially for a nice Belgian.

Yipee! I think this is a great addition as well. Thanks Katrine!!

Fulton has been developing pretty quickly down in the Clinton area. I noticed that Boca Soul was renovating their space, and Capital One is opening there too (we'll take anything as long as it's not another defunct store front).

Some Park Slope realtor troll please make a hilarious comment about how the bank is going to be robbed because it's in Clinton Hill now.

Really exciting. The Marcus Garvey locale is a bit out of the way for me (although I make my way out there anyway). The owners are cool and deserve the support.

Fulton is progressing rather slowly.Myrtle Ave is progressing quickly. They do need to finish that road construction and pave the roads for starters.

Myrtle has the benefit of having Pratt push a lot of the changes. There is no similar institutional presence on Fulton - altho one would think Pratt might want to focus on Fulton as well.

i'll be there

Myrtle has also a very active BID (Business Improvements District) which provides financing of some sort for new stores (money for awnings, grants for interiors, etc.). Also look at their beautiful website, with links to online menus, etc.). A year or so ago there was some talk (and a first meeting) of a newly formed Fulton BID. Anybody knows what happened with it? Even only a website with addresses of existing stores, see the Lewis Avenue one, would be of help. On another issue, why has Olivino website been out of work for a while now?

This is great news for this side of Fulton and for all of us who live nearby. The second floor of basically this entire block seems empty, does anyone know whats possibly comeing in the future? A bookstore would be great, even a Barnes and Noble. Once 525collection gets completed with its 30-33 luxury condos this part of Fulton will be jumping. Thanks Katrine for doing your part to improve the area.
