Streetlevel: Lincoln Road Nail Salon Shuts Down

Dear%20Customers.jpg
The nail salon on Lincoln Road in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, where manis and pedis could be had for a mere $15 (the trick is to ask for three coats), closed down two weeks ago. A note was attached to the door announcing the closure "because of a change in lease" and thanking customers for years of support. The buzz at neighborhood wi-fi cafe K-Dog & Dunebuggy is that a restaurant might go in its place. There's been a number of changes at this strip of stores. K-dogs just started serving alcohol and extended its evening hours. Papa & Sons started serving smoothies and fresh made food, and now stays open 24 hours. And then of course there's that huge glass tower going up next door, which we reported could serve as expansion space for the Maple Street School if built as planned. Tons of nail salons are nearby on Flatbush Avenue, but without an appointment they all have 40 minute waits on a weekend. But no use crying over spilled rubbing alcohol. What would you like to see move in?

dashing diva...

not dive.

lol

That's it! Move in an EXPENSIVE nail salon!

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 2:35 PM

One fact about nail salons is that they require a huge capital investment. That is why there are so few of them. Sadly, the closure of this one in P-LG means that Brooklynites will have to venture farther afield for their nail treatments.

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 2:37 PM

who cares, this is some bullshit.

"That is why there are so few of them."

Um, what? You are kidding right?

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 2:43 PM

As a new resident to the neighborhood, I hope a restaurant or cool bar moves into the space!

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 2:52 PM

Something is wrong with the picture above. I thought PLG was in the hood/ghetto, was this picture taken in the 1950s? Where are the Ghetto people, were they moved to E. New York?

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 2:52 PM

2:37 has a hard time finding a tourist in Times Square.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 13, 2008 3:06 PM

It's new Restaurant Row in the making!

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 3:15 PM

2:52- Really? You're going to pull out the ghetto/hood card?

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 3:28 PM

I'd like to move in with the woman in the green shirt.

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 3:36 PM

3:36, I think you have a strong case in a lawsuit against your Ophthalmologist.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 13, 2008 3:40 PM

2:37 Actually there are tons of nail salons right around the corner, but this one is the personal favorite of most people I know here for super cheap manicures and pedicures. It's less cramped, they rarely mess up, and it's actually a few dollars cheaper than the other local places. So a tear falls for this business.

But, looking toward the future, I would love love love a Thai or Indian place because it now takes 45 minutes for delivery. In the meantime, PLG people: try Mango Thai (www.mangothai.com) or Indian Place on Vanderbilt. Both are excellent. Another bar would be cool, but I'm totally happy going to Enduro. I know a lot of the staff well and I always bump into like three people I know every time I go. Always a nice time there!

Posted by: sarah ryley at May 13, 2008 3:40 PM

Sarah, Indian's my favorite and I also really enjoy Thai food. I haven't been to Enduro, but wouldn't it be great for you to be able to bump into four people you know every time you go? I love love love your writing style too.

By the way, you're not the woman in the green t-shirt in the picture by chance, are you? I would hate for us to have gotten off on the wrong foot.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 13, 2008 3:49 PM

Another retaurant/ bar would be nice. Enduro is a nice spot, but the food is average, let's keep it real.

Posted by: Dutch at May 13, 2008 4:21 PM

I agree with Dutch. Enduro's nice but we really need some choice. Mexican is getting old!

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 4:40 PM

Sarah, indeed, it's possible she's one decent hairstyle and a few stomach crunches away from being a true looker. But back to you. I haven't been to Enduro, but you make it sound truly scrumptious. The thought of you and awesome oysters in the same place is more than enough to make me trek over from BH. And I actually prefer white sangria since red wine gives me a headache, especially after 3 bottles. But I'll have to lay off the pulled pork - I can already sense my Bubby rolling over in her condo in Miami Beach.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 13, 2008 4:42 PM

I went to the salon once, but questioned the sanitary conditions, I have to say.

I am one of those who would love to see a restaurant row develop here. A good Italian restaurant would be wonderful. A good specialty store with cheeses and breads, etc would also be quite nice.

Enduro is packed every night and indicates there is great potential here.

Posted by: Bernie at May 13, 2008 5:13 PM

Another vote for Thai,or Indian.

Italian or French would also be nice.

I waited 30+ years for a place like Enduro (and I agree with Sarah that it's quite good) but the more the better--it's about time!

It's an Up and Coming Neighborhood according to this blog. lol http://realflatbush.blogspot.com/

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 5:37 PM

Enduro is a great place, but I agree with Dutch, the food is average. Maybe it's just what I ordered. In any event, the ambiance is great and there is certainly a need for more options like it.

Posted by: jurist at May 13, 2008 5:39 PM

Picture looks pretty ghetto to me. Just because there are no black people in the photo doesn't mean it isn't a ghetto. And as we all know, just across the street and around the corner...

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 5:47 PM

I don't know why biff's 'bubby' is going to be ok with oysters when she can't except the gastronomic wonder that is swine. I do know that I find his public flirting creepy.

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 6:18 PM

5:47......across the street and around the corner is where trailer trash like yourself moved up to huh? sorry ass.

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 6:20 PM

5:37,

While the "Real Flatbush"blog occasionally mentions PLG [which, after all, is a part of Flatbush, like Ditmas Park,Prospect park So., etc.], that blog is basically about the area to our south.

Posted by: Bob Marvin at May 13, 2008 6:22 PM

6:18:

1) The Bubby reference was a joke; not to be taken literally. Sorry for having to spell that out for you, and

2) I find your grammar creepy. I believe you meant "accept" rather than "except". Sorry I had to (literally) spell that out to you too.

Posted by: Biff Champion at May 13, 2008 6:38 PM

I don't know how the restaurant rumor got started, but it is false. A liquor store is going to open in this location. I know because my neighbor is the one who is opening it.

Posted by: guest at May 13, 2008 7:06 PM

A wine store would be awesome -- and now that Papa's is open 24 hours and has actually good produce (red leaf lettuce, baby zucchini, etc.), and lots of other goodies (real Mexican crema, for example -- try your Mexican food with that instead of sour cream and you'll understand why people from the West Coast laugh at our Mexican restos -- sorry, Enduro, I love your margaritas (too well), but your food ain't great), I can get everything I need on the way home from the office.

I vote French Bistrot or Italian Trattoria

There is a wine store/wine bar slated for Flatbush near Lincoln. She's waiting for the liquor license apparently. It's been a really long wait. But that's the word we keep getting, that it's still planned to open.

We need a new restaurant more than a liquor store, but if it's a liquor store I really hope it carries good wine and a wide array of specialty liquor. If it's just a regular old liquor store we got one of those already one block away from this.
