Work Resuming at 163 Washington Avenue?

163-Washington-042808.jpg
We've been surprised to see work resuming at 163 Washington Avenue in recent days. The controversial site has been the focus of much local controversy after the developer failed to meet an accelerated deadline for having his foundation in place last year. Several rounds at the BSA and reported attempts at negotiations with neighborhood activists later, and the DOB website still shows a Stop Work Order in effect. An email from one of the opponents last night, however, suggested that the SWO may have in fact been lifted in recent days. Despite getting a pass from the BSA, we hear that there are still active discussions about downsizing the building to appease the community (though why the developer would voluntarily reduce his project—unless he's having financing troubles—is beyond us). Regardless of what the developer ends up building, he only has another four months or so to get the foundation poured. Update: DOB is telling us that the SWO has NOT been lifted.

What happens in "four months or so"?

I just hope SOMETHING gets built soon. I'm getting tired of looking at those mounds of dirt.

BSA is a complete sham. It's all a hoax. Susan Hinkson is corrupt as are others on the board. There is documented proof.

I could be wrong but I think the developer might be able to work at the site only in order to make safety changes and fix things in violation. That might be what they're doing right now. One thing is for sure, the neighbors are going to give this guy his share of 311 hell every step of the way. Watch for several more SWOs.
