I couldn't resist posting this little diddy up.

U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Rose 38,000 to 407,000

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aktHiB6ROVuE&refer=home

Lookie here claims rose by 900%! Yep, everything is fine. Carry on old chaps!

The biggest housing recession in a generation, coupled with mounting losses in financial markets, is prompting companies to sack workers and consumers to slow their spending. The Labor Department may report tomorrow the U.S. lost jobs in March for a third month, according to economists surveyed.

Did he say "The biggest housing recession in a generation"?! Ok!

"Homebuilders and housing-related businesses, including lenders and financial service companies with exposure to mortgage-backed securities, are also stepping up firings."

"Stepping up firings"?! Would some of those firings be on Wall Street?

There is no depression coming, yeah right.

what a moron. It rose BY 38k not FROM 38k.

Posted by: guest at April 3, 2008 9:13 AM

That Venetian looks hot. Don't know if I want to live in Gravesend though.

Good morning, The What. Like how they hid that 900% calculation. This housing recession keeps breaking records - worst since the Tech boom, worst since the 90's, now the worst in a generation. Wait'l it gets worse than the GD.

Go Newark Nets! Go Lodi! (I know you're in Stuy)

Posted by: guest at April 3, 2008 9:13 AM

I made a mistake, my bad. It's 9%. The drugs are good in Lodi LOL.

"Go Newark Nets! " Yep, the Knicks suck, even with Donnie Walsh. I started rooting for the Nets a couple of months ago. Hell at lease you have Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter!

9:13 #1 and #2, please excuse The What. He doesn't usually like the facts getting in the way of his arguments. But at least he's finally admitting to living in Lodi.

What. What is it? Do you actually want the economy to collapse, or do you just want housing to go back to normal so more people can afford homes? Because wanting the economy to collapse and people's lives to be ruined is kind of f'd up ...

Posted by: guest at April 3, 2008 10:06 AM

I agree with Sid Meyer's comment on the Daily News article.

"What. What is it? Do you actually want the economy to collapse, or do you just want housing to go back to normal so more people can afford homes? Because wanting the economy to collapse and people's lives to be ruined is kind of f'd up ..."

The economy has already collapsed. You must be asleep to ask me a question like that! Inflation is running north of 11%. Gas is up 43% from last year and food prices are out of this world!

Rice Jumps to Record, Corn Near High as Demand Outpaces Supply

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=acnqou1542Qs&refer=home

This is a LIE! It's not demand, it's inflation stupid!

There are people that never had anything to do with this Mutant Asset Bubble but, they are paying the price of a profligate lifestyle!

Your taxpayer dollars are bailing out Bear Sterns and GOD knows who else and put put that question to me. Yeah OK Homeboy, that way to the cheese line---->

"Because wanting the economy to collapse and people's lives to be ruined is kind of f'd up ..."

There lives are already ruined. Stagnate wages and high prices are a bad mix. BTW Your job go bye bye and it's not coming back.

Wrap your mind around this!

Yeah, what a moron is about right. It's just mindless rabble-rousing to cust and paste negative stories from the internet and endorse them as the gospel. And then when you don't understand them and surround them with "B follows A so A caused B conclusions" there really is nothing of value being offered. I follow the markets all day; there are plenty of people with positive outlooks too and stories about them on CNBC and whatnot (not that I believe them either, but that's not the point). And 10:06 is right, what's the point? Schadenfreude is great, but when it all turns to crap it doesn't tend to spare people with sixth grade educations and internet access.

10:20 AM I'm sorry, is your house going into foreclosure? LOL! I think I touched a nerv... Oh wait you are a former Bear Sterns employee. Oh, that explains it. Google the nearest food stamp office. Get there early, I think the line will be long.

No, What, I was just agreeing that you are a moron and explaining why.

Posted by: guest at April 3, 2008 10:35 AM

Amazing that a couple of posters yesterday were actually wishing for the return of The What.

Be careful what you wish for...

Posted by: Biff Champion at April 3, 2008 10:52 AM

Hey The tWhat, your 9:23am posting, you mention giving a 'lease' to Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson. Are you back to bragging about being a landlord again??
...someday, this rent-stabalization is gonna end...

Regarding the protest against Ratner/Brooklyn Museum:

Wow! 100 signatures (oh, count them!) in a neighborhood of 20,000 people. Now that's what I call a high turnout.

How much money have Lumi Rolley, Patti Hagan, Daniel Goldstein, etc. donated to Brooklyn cultural institutions? I'm sure their combined lifetime contributions are less than 1/10 of 1% of what Ratner has donated this year alone. Ratner has been supporting Brooklyn cultural institutions since Daniel Goldstein was a teeny-bopper.

Another attempt at "activism" that will amount to zero.

The What is a pretty funny guy. It's interesting that some of you people are actually threatened and all worked up over his ravings. I don't think things are as bad as he makes out, but I know he has at least as much right as anyone on this site to say what he feels. At least he's funny!

Posted by: guest at April 3, 2008 1:22 PM

12:48 = Another attempt at Ratner boosterism that will amount to zero.

"Do you actually want the economy to collapse"

I do. It's a means to an end to these assinine home prices. But it only works if you are fortunate enough to maintain an income and to have saved a large enough downpayment to factor out interest rate spikes. So far, I'm one of those fortunate ones. "Knock knock knock...".

The more I think about it, the economy HAS to collapse with housing because housing = economy (home price appreciation was most of our GDP).

Like always, the economy will eventually rebound. Alternative fuels will pull us out of this recession. It'll probably take a few years, however.

ahhhhh you pieces of shit go back to lodi nj already dammit

Posted by: guest at April 3, 2008 5:00 PM

Ah, 1:57, have you seen the photos from yesterday's protest against Ratner's honoring? Norman "OCD" Oder estimated (probably exagerrated) a pathetic 80-100 turnout (again, in a neighborhood of 20,000 people). As always, most of the protestors were white and, of course, the event went on as planned, with neither the media (NYT, NY Daily News, NY Post, NY!, etc.) nor the attendees paying attention to the protest.
