Overpriced! What's new.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:18 AM

I don't understand. These are *rentals*? Why are we talking about them here?

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:19 AM

Indeed, very much overpriced.

-Foreigner

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:20 AM

I was wondering the same thing 11:19. Probably just an accident.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:24 AM

#3. wow my unit is on brownstoner :o.

/puts on flame suit.

Posted by: armchairwarrior at April 4, 2008 11:29 AM

I thought this posting was a mistake too, but if you look you'll see that "rental" is actually part of the byline. It's hard to see how that could happen by accident. So, I think it is intentional, but why it is here or what we are supposed to do with it is anyone's guess.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:32 AM

How are these apartments overpriced?

Overpriced for park slope? For manhattan? For kansas?

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:40 AM

I own and rentals of the week are cool. kinda gives owners like me ideas on price points and layouts. it's all relative.

the only mistake is see is St Marks and 7th??

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:40 AM

Contrary to the above posts, I very much enjoy this feature.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:41 AM

haha bitter owners

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:41 AM

I don't know what you guys are bitching about - even if you're not renting or looking to rent, if you bought a condo it's interesting to see what it would rent for (and if you may have overpaid...)

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:42 AM

11:19 & 11:32: Comparisons? Some people want to see what others are renting their units for, just like you may be checking here to see the comps on brownstones in your neighborhood, to see if you are up or down. This site is not only for owners; potential buyers need to see what they will be able to get once they spend a mint on a brownstone and are trying to offset their mortgage. Others might want to know what they can get for their garden rental since their tenant of the last 4 years just left. Who knows exactly why people are looking, but I will say, this is an interesting post to me because someday I may want to rent my condo and will hopefully see comps here.

Posted by: e10b at April 4, 2008 11:43 AM

I agree that this is a strange use of bandwidth for this site. Rentals? Puhleeeez....

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:44 AM

Comparisons? Come on! Any rag on the street will give you those.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:45 AM

armchair warrior, what's up with the subliminal pride & prejudice? is this sort of like, "non-literary types need not apply"?

Posted by: i disagree at April 4, 2008 11:46 AM

Funny. I have ALWAYS thought this feature was out of place on this site. This is information that you can get literally anywhere. It doesn't merit attention here.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:48 AM

Armchair, what is that in the bath a hand dryer? and what's up with more bedroom pics?

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:51 AM

11:46am

its to avoid cl spam filters :). add any extra text into the post and its a new ad. cl spam filters suck.

brokers and other posters spam the crap out of cl. so i have to update my ad too.

Posted by: armchairwarrior at April 4, 2008 11:51 AM

Most of the news on this site you can get anywhere- comps, sales, weekend listings, etc. All these things and the articles are pulled from other websites. Brownstoner has collected them for you so you don't have to check 20 different publications/sites.

In honor of MLK, I would like to see these changes happen in Park Slope:

I have a dream that one day on the hills of Prospect Park, the sons of Clinton Hill fathers and the sons of Park Slope mothers will be able to sit down at a bench together without the Park Sloper spitting in his face.

I have a dream that one day even Park Slope, a neighborhood sweltering with the heat of snootiness, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in Park Slope where they will not be judged by the size of the brownstone they reside in but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, in Park Slope, with its vicious stroller nazi moms and with their dads having their lips dripping with the words of "class apartheid" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Park Slope little Fort Greene boys and Bedford Stuyvesant girls will be able to join hands with little Park Slope boys and Park Slope girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:58 AM

11:58 why are YOU always instigating a PS vs FT Green rumble?

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:08 PM

It's the same info in about a hundred different places. Stoner doesn't have to collect anything. Just buy a newspaper.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:08 PM

My guess is it's only a matter of time before Mr. B puts his foot down here. This feature is, if anything, a 'drag' on this site. The sooner it is jettisoned, the better.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:10 PM

You are all being silly, right?

Posted by: Putnamdenizen at April 4, 2008 12:17 PM

id rather rentals than yorgurt.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:21 PM

Agreed, 12:10. This feature wastes time and bandwidth.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:23 PM

I enjoyed the feature. If it's not for you, simply ignore and go on to the next post. Why the vehemence? This site is FREE you know?

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:25 PM

I actually like this site and hope that it will be successful. That's why I don't want a stinker of a feature like this on it.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:36 PM

Can't we all just get along? Keep the rentals! Don't be such snobs!

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:43 PM

I must say I don't care for the rentals feature. Even on a slow day, we shouldn't have to stretch THAT far.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:52 PM

^ ^ ^ S N O B ^ ^ ^

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 12:55 PM

I have to come down on the side of the folks who are perplexed, flummoxed, appalled, disdainful, pained, depressed and disgusted with this utterly meaningless thread. I have spend the better part of the morning trying to come to grips with it. "Why," I ask, "WHY is there a thread about rentals on a blog about brownstone ownership??!!!" As an earlier poster said, all of this information is available via other sources. It saddens and sickens me that this thread exists. I weep not only for Mr. B, but for the countless innocents he has hurt (myself, obviously, included) today with his willful disrespect and contempt.

I'm usually not a fan of pharmeceuticals, but I have found myself so distraught over this rental thread that I have mixed a potent cocktail of OxyContin, Zoloft, Lexapro, Vicodin and St. Joseph's chewable aspirin to somehow try--TRY and get through the day.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I will certainly be counting the minutes until this thread is pushed off the main page--and some semblance of order and justice can be returned to my (and so many others') world.

Good day and God Bless!

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:02 PM

We've seen this feature before, but I don't recall the opposition to it as I am reading today. Is it because it's North Slope rentals?

I love it all - HOTD, Rentals, foreclosures, 6 motnth reviews, all of it.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:04 PM

this has the most posts today

ha

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:10 PM

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:13 PM

I'm psyched for you too.

Posted by: jerri blank at April 4, 2008 1:23 PM

You can ASK all you want.

You won't get it, mind you.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:26 PM

true dat 1:26.. I can ask high and settle at 2700.00. still a lot better than the 1300 that i know others are getting in BS or CHeights

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:33 PM

From about,"Brownstoner.com is a site about Brooklyn real estate and renovation, and all the tangential topics that impact life inside and outside the home in Brooklyn." I think rentals fall into the tangential topics of this website and I enjoy this feature.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:54 PM

i love this rental feature please keep it coming!!

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 1:58 PM

Uh, pretty clear that this here thread is full of trolls. They aren't serious folks - they are just trying to get your goat (which is, after all, what trolls eat).

what they really mean, is they dream one day they will get a job. I mean who else has an hr to waste posting nonsense.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 2:34 PM

I don't see why this feature is at all worthwhile. Rentals? Gimme a break.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 2:39 PM

Total waste of time/space.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 2:44 PM

As a brownstone owner, with rental income, I am curious to see what apartments in brownstones are going for. Sure, I could get the info in other places, but this happens to be the only Bklyn r.e. site that I read, so I don't mind the occaisional post on rentals. I gives me some idea what my tenants might be seeing. It's not like Bstoner does this very often. If you hate it, then just skip over it. Seriously folks.

P.S. Bstoner probably throws this in to appeal to his r.e. broker advertisers. And I don't blame him. I'd rather see his business model work and keep him around, than see Bstoner disappear some day (and then what would the trolls have to do all day). And no, I'm not a broker, not even close.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:10 PM

The apartment on 7th must be 300 sq ft.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:14 PM

I'm a renter soon to be looking for a new place and even *I* don't care about this feature. If I want listings I will go to Craigslist.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:22 PM

me thinks the reason you dont care is because the #'s are over your budget. good luck in ENY.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:32 PM

Rentals of the week is a great source for me...a PS landlord.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:37 PM

"The apartment on 7th must be 300 sq ft."

Yes, but it's SUN-KISSED.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:51 PM

3:32 I am not stupid enugh to pay $3k/month to rent a one bedroom in Park Slope. You can post ENY rentals and I still won't care.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 3:57 PM

If anything, I suspect this feature is bad for business. It reflects poorly on the blog and contributes to a growing sense that Brownstoner.com is past its prime.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 4:54 PM

SUN-KISSED? LOL---more like my-ASS-KISSED---that apt is a hell-hole piece of crap. Nice "kitchen"!!! Hahaha what a joke

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 5:05 PM

trolls. trolls. trolls. [Do trolls rent apartments or just live under bridges?]

Posted by: Putnamdenizen at April 4, 2008 5:17 PM

the three bedroom is a steal.

the rest are horrible.

keep the rentals feature...if only because it pisses the pompous owners off. :)

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 5:18 PM

I can't imagine why you would think that discussing rentals would be bad for business.

Unless, perhaps, you are an insecure owner who fears that more people opting to rent will hasten the deflating value of your home.

Or perhaps an insecure broker with too much free time and not enough sales business coming in.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 5:22 PM

all way overpriced

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 5:59 PM

3:57 Why don't you suggest an area of interest then??? Or are you mad because you're going back to West Bubble?

I hear it's popping over there.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 10:08 PM

This feature has no place on this site. Period.

Posted by: guest at April 4, 2008 11:35 PM

I definitely vote for discontinuing this feature. It's really not very interesting...at all. This kind of information is available in so many places...too many really. To put it here is utterly pointless.

Posted by: guest at April 5, 2008 6:17 AM

No kidding. There might as well be a separate feature devoted to the current time and temperature. lol

Posted by: guest at April 5, 2008 9:44 AM

I like this feature. I own a brownstone and want to know what rentals go for so I can make sure that my unit is let out at the 'right' rate.

And if i were looking to buy a place, I would still want to know what rentals go for in order to help make sure the numbers work.

Posted by: guest at April 5, 2008 10:21 AM

Well 10:21 you are in luck because you can find such information absolutely anywhere!

Posted by: guest at April 5, 2008 4:49 PM

I would like it of Brownstoner had a daily feature dedicated to the current time and temperature. If you have appointments or need to adhere to a schedule, it is helpful to know what time it is. And if you have to be outside, it is also good to know what the temperature is. That way, you can make an informed decision about whether or not you need to wear a jacket, coat or sweater. It sucks being late for appointments and it likewise sucks being under or overdressed. So, I think a feature like this would be great.

Posted by: guest at April 5, 2008 4:52 PM

Putnamdenizen = 4:52

Posted by: guest at April 6, 2008 7:02 AM

As someone who is thinking of moving back to the slope, and am unsure whether it's more sensible to buy or rent, I'm grateful for this rentals thread.

For anyone disinterested, the ones who "vote" to kick it off, there is a simple solution: skip it! don't try to squash something others find handy, just because it doesn't directly interest you.
