Gowanus Lounge and Curbed have published renderings of the planned Bushwick Inlet Park on the Williamsburg-Greenpoint waterfront, which the Parks Dept. says it's going to start working on this fall. The drawings are for the first phase of the project, between North 9th and 10th streets, which will involve a multi-purpose athletic field that Parks wants to finish by next summer and a maintenance building/community space that the city is looking to get done by summer 2010. When complete, the entire park is supposed to stretch over 28 acres between the Bushwick Inlet and North 9th, from Kent Avenue to the water.

Why use the name Bushwick? It is not even close to that neighborhood.

where are the highrises that will pay for the Park's maintenance?

According to Wikipedia, this whole area was once considered "Bushwick" in Dutch times. Maybe that has something to do with the name.

where are the trolls ... I mean, garden gnomes?

No way this happens anytime soon with the economic downturn coming. AY will be built before this. In fact once AY is built, this will be worthless. And another thing, anyone getting hot under the collar regarding that gray type problem?

what gray problem?

Posted by: guest at April 10, 2008 11:06 AM

You know, the way the posts are hard to read by guests because the type is gray. I was just wondering whether anyone had any feelings on that issue they would like to express?

Are you just being Facetious Brooklynnative, or are you the "faded type troll" from a few weeks back?

Actually, this is the location of Bushwick Creek that emptied into the East River. The creek has long since been filled in and this little inlet is all that remains of the waterway.

Hey 11:25, are you saying I'm being facetious, with a capital F? It's hard to read your post.

I fail to understand why AY would impact this site and render it useless. It would be a great addition to the Greenpoint/WB waterfront.

Also- if executed as drawn, this park will be light years better than East River park next door. If anything, once this is built ERSP will be worthless if still maintained and run by the state.

Bushwick INLET Park, not Bushwick Park. As 12:14 says, its where Bushwick Creek used to empty out to the East River. You can see a map of the course of the old Bushwick Creek here:

Bushwick INLET Park, not Bushwick Park. As 12:14 says, this is where Bushwick Creek used to empty into the East River. There's a map showing where Bushwick Creek used to run here: http://www.brooklyn11211.com/archive/2007/03/a_creek_runs_th.html
