Hazmat Team Dispatched to Park Slope Brownstone

A reader just sent in this photo from 4th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in Park Slope. According to her email, the street "is blocked off with huge Police trucks, an DEP truck, firemen, cops, and people in Hazmat suits. Looked like they were all in front of one particular brownstone." Anyone have any more details? Update: According to the NY Press, a 65-year-old man was found dead at 401 4th Street with "a clear, white liquid believed to be cyanide." A NYPD spokesman says they don't suspect any criminality, but the medical examiner is still checking it out. GMAP

Hazardous equity leak.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 1:17 PM
what an incredibly ignorant thing to say, 12:46.
truly disgusting.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 1:18 PM
12.46 : Hilarious...come on 1.18...have a sense of humor...you strike me as a stereotypical PSP that 12.46 was trying to mock
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 1:22 PM
I'm 1:18 and I don't live in Park Slope.
12:46's comment is no different than saying a black person started talking.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 1:30 PM
Oh come on ...that was a funny comment - the whole point was an insider started talking ..and the hazmat team showed up - would make a great movie scene ..LOL
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 1:48 PM
Wow, Park Slope moms are now a protected class.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 1:49 PM
if you think that was funny, you REALLY need to get out more.
or get laid.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 2:01 PM
What if it was a black Park Slope mom that started talking?
Or a black, disabled park slope mom?
Still think its funny?

According to a Brooklynian commentator, the medical examiner just removed a corpse from the house:

Why does race race always have to be brought into these things? Sad...
*sigh*

Are they looking for abroker to sell the house?
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 3:22 PM
Probably because misogyny was brought into it first.

You're right, that's not funny.
Now a black jewish lesbian park slope mom talking ... that's funny!!
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 3:47 PM
So b/c one person was a dick about gender, another person is going to be a dick about race to uninvolved group that had nothing to do with the initial discussion? What an idiot! Also a hypocrite.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 3:49 PM
UPDATE: According to the NYPD, the incident in Park Slope this morning involved one fatality: 65-year-old Robert Siegel, whose body was found by his wife. The DEP tested the toxic liquid and determined the substance to be cyanide. Police say they do not suspect criminality at this time.

Does this mean that there is an apartment available???
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 4:05 PM
4:05's comment is the only funny one in the thread.
Posted by: Brooklynnative at April 21, 2008 4:11 PM
Can something be clear & white?
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 4:22 PM
4:05 just copied 3:22 the original comic genius of this thread

So, a fed up park slope wife of unknown race poisoned her jewish husband.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 5:04 PM
I thought we found the WMDs.
Posted by: ggodik at April 21, 2008 5:53 PM
apparently being anonymous kills humor.

So now personal tragegy is fodder for Brownstoner. Despicable beyond words. Like a tabloid groping for attention. I'm sure it will give the unknown family and friends additional comfort to know how readily their anguish was exploited. Just because it is the city doesn't mean that people don't deserve privacy and dignity.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 7:46 PM
That was my neighbor, you fucking trolls. You sick bastards hiding behind your keyboards and computer screens can all go to hell.
And Brownstoner should be ashamed to allow such comments.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 8:32 PM
You people need to relax. A hazmat team on a local block in a well-known neighborhood is a public interest story. In this case, however, it was a tragic private matter. Brownstoner didn't know that before the story was posted. It was and is news. It'll be all over the media.
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 9:20 PM
I have no problem with Brownstoner posting the story. I wrote that they should be ashamed for not deleting the comments posted by the ghouls who populate the Comments section.

That's it, I'm never moving to Bed Stuy! Too dangerous! Park Slope moms wilding after dark!
Posted by: guest at April 21, 2008 11:51 PM
This is an extremely sad story. Thoughts are with the family.
Posted by: guest at April 22, 2008 12:13 AM
This is a horrible situation. And you folks who have nothing better to do but make nasty comments and think you are being funny...well grow up. imagine if this happened to you and your family....
Posted by: guest at April 22, 2008 7:49 AM
"do any of you have a conscience? moral fiber?"
Nope. We are in a completely utterly narcissistic and childlike society now and it's only getting worse with all the kiddies who are being obsessed over and never taught to think about others before themselves. Which if anybody remembers that quaint concept, used to be called "the Golden Rule" which everybody was taught from a young age. No more.

This is the second death of a family friend that has made the news in the past year. I am disgusted and appalled that people have the audacity to make ignorant and insensitive comments on websites. Death is death and it is sad. Please stop and think of the families who will inevitably read this. How dare you mock a family’s pain?

"Please stop and think of the families who will inevitably read this."
If I die today, I'm pretty sure my family won't be spending tomorrow or any day thereafter scouring the comment section of brownstoner for reference to the event. If he was your neighbor/friend get off the internet and make some food for the family, write a condolence card, do something other than lash out at strangers. We aren't the ones who poisoned him.

GO TO HELL

GO TO HELL YOU INSENSITIVE PIECES OF SHIT

Beautiful!
Pitch-perfect Park Slope "indignation" and "righteous outrage"!
Couldn't have written it better if it were a Saturday Night Live skit.
