Closing Bell: Liv Tyler Moving to Brooklyn—Or Not
Liv Tyler was house hunting in Brooklyn this weekend, says UK-based Hello Magazine. According to the tabloid, the story goes thus: Tyler, her husband and their kid, who live in the West Village, "spent the afternoon browsing townhouse-style properties in Brooklyn, including one three-storey, red brick edifice with high ceilings that Liv seemed particularly interested in. On the market for $16 million, the 8,000-square-foot property features period details like doors with etched glass and grand fireplaces, plus views out over the Hudson and the Statue Of Liberty." It's an especially fascinating story since the house described in the story is 140 Columbia Heights, which Tyler reportedly considered buying a few years back and which subsequently sold to someone who is not named Liv Tyler. According to a Brooklyn Heights broker who worked with Tyler a few years back, the actress was in touch a few weeks ago to discuss several Brooklyn listings but Tyler has probably (once again) decided not to move from Manhattan. The broker did not know whether Tyler was house hunting in Brooklyn this weekend, but had this to say about the Hello report: "The townhouse pictured is not 140 Columbia Heights, though the text description is. I’m not sure what property is pictured, but I believe it to be a Manhattan listing."

4:18, you're right, if you're talking about today. Streeteasy shows 140 Columbia Heights was on the market for $16 million on 1/27/06 and then $12,900,000 on 9/26/06 (that's some reduction). No idea what it would list for (or actually get) today, but no doubt it wouldn't be anywhere close to $16 million.

140 sold a long time ago. Nothing on the market on the harbour side of Columbia. nothing on the market at 16mm

It was originally briefly listed for $20 mil. Once owned by a college professor (Brooklyn College if memory serves) and childhood friend of Warren Buffet's who's widow left about $750 million to various Brooklyn charities (the benefits of investing with Warren for 50+ years). House was a bit of a dump apparently. According to a pretty funny NYT article some years ago, they lived very frugally.
Bought by Wall Street money and, one would guess, massively renovated to today's whopper of an asking price.

I'm trying really hard to care. nope, not working.
What would be reallin interesting is if Liv Tyler autographed the sign on the bike at South Portland that's chained to the little fence around the tree across from the angry homeowners. Then it would become this celebrity shrine. The homeowner would charge people admission to touch the note.

the poytech prof and wife lived in a diff house.
they did give lots of money to everyone -- the historic society bldg on pierrepont was renovated on that dime, for example. plymouth chruch still sitting on the money given to them.

My friend's wife was in the same mother's group for breastfeeding their babies. Liv was kicked out of the group because she didn't go, she sent her baby nurse. I hope she was a wet nurse.

8:14: dumbest.comment.ever. and so irrelevant. the thing I'd find hard to beleive is that Liv can afford a $16 million home. She isn't paid $10 million a movie and doesn't pimp herself out on commercials etc. Frankly, she'd be more in the $2 - 3 mil range.

I live near Liv and have been in a couple "mommy and me" classes with her over the years. She's perfectly lovely and a great mom. What is wrong with people like 8:14? Sheesh, maybe she send the nanny off to the wrong class by accident. A new mom, not sleeping, making a mistake? I've done worse. Give me a break.
The only thing I've found hard about parenting is all the losers like 8:14 ready to pounce.

Brownstoner traffic has dropped because this site is a more or less imperfect barometer of the local market. When our housing was at its most inflated, traffic to this site peaked. Those who thought they had chosen smartly by investing in overpriced garbage, for flip or otherwise, were assured by Brownstoner and others doing the same that their investments were genius. Let’s not forget that Brownstoner would, without qualification, puff every single piece of overpriced brick and mortar as a steal. We now know better. The market has tanked, and nobody (including Brownstoner) is claiming a 2 to 3 million dollar brownstone is a good value. Not surprisingly, interest in this site has dropped precipitously.
The conclusion is obvious: let’s call it a day. Brownstoner, shut this site down and give it a rest. We are all a little depressed, we don’t need this anymore.

Its a British rumor tabloid. Whats the difference if the building is or isnt the right one, price or picture....If I wrote a gossip piece in the post about Gynyth Paltrow shopping for a house in Paris and showed a picture and gave a price, who the hell would care if the facts were right? People read it...it did its job.
