More competition for the Fulton Mall sneaker stores: Heavyweight sports goods retailer Modell's is getting ready to set up shop at 450 Fulton Street. From the looks of it, the grand opening is still a few months off. GMAP

I've bought many a sneaker at the Modell's in Fulton mall. It's been there for a decade at least.

You'll be happy to know that there are Starbucks here too.

I see lots of lonely people, looking to meet other lonely people there.

I also see a lot of 20-somethings paying $4 for a cup of Joe during the day. What do these folks to for rent.

At least they're buying something. Apparently, you just stand outside of Starbucks staring at them.

Posted by: guest at March 24, 2008 4:02 PM

try 40 years, yes, 40 that sounds closer to right.

I remember walking to Modell's back in the day to buy my Brooklyn Dodger's gear. Hat's were a nickle, and jersey's a dime... ah the good'ol days.

i've read brownstoner's post several times now and i'm still not seeing the part where it says that this is the first modells on fulton mall ...

Posted by: BrooklynLove at March 24, 2008 8:25 PM

Finally I have a reason to sign the contract at BelTel!

Posted by: guest at March 24, 2008 8:31 PM

You need as many Modell's as possible. Everytime I go to the one on Flatbush near Atlantic there are 4-5 staff behind the registers, two people waiting to pay, and still you can't get out of there.

This is a beautiful old building that's had a hideous first floor makeover. I walk by every day on my way to the subway and had been hoping they would be restoring the street level facade, but alas, no. Why 3 Models in one neighborhood? Why 4 Payless?

Really? You mean you can't SEE this:

--> Modell's Coming to Fulton Mall More competition for the Fulton Mall sneaker stores <--

Does something "come" to a place if it's already been there?

And how can *anything* be bringing "more competition" to an area unless it was a new establishment opening there?
