Spotlight on The Flea

nymag-flea-0308.jpg
With less than two weeks 'til opening day, the Brooklyn Flea gets some serious love from New York Magazine today. The weekly spotlights 17 of the 200 or so vendors that will be on hand for the April 6 kick-off, including Prague Kolektiv, which will be selling a number of these cool mid-century Czech cocktail carts, and Eddie Hibbert, who will have a bunch of salvage items like the mantel above. On another note, we're looking for a handful of attendants to man the exits from 10 to 5; if you know of anyone looking to make a few bucks on Sundays, drop an email to flea@brownstoner.com.

The best thing about 11:04

One less competitor to buy amazing stuff. So glad your'e not going...

Posted by: guest at March 24, 2008 11:15 AM

I was gonna mouth off to 11:03, who seems like a jerk, but then 11:15 came along, who seems like an even bigger jerk. Decisions, decisions...

I don't know who 11:04 is.

I hope them needing people to "man the exits" doesn't mean there's going to be a cover charge? My idea of flea markets is the European model, a wide range of differently priced items and absolutely NO COVER. The best Manhattan flea markets don't charge.

You're right, 11:15. I'll just have to do my best to lead a meaningful life WITHOUT a Czech cocktail cart. It ain't gonna be easy.

Brownstoner- There's no cover charge is there? That would be ridiculous.

Posted by: guest at March 24, 2008 12:32 PM

There is no cover charge. There are fire safety codes we have to comply with.

What a relief! I'll be there probably every weekend. Can't wait.

If you stop by the FGPO table, where I'll be, and you're a Brownstoner regular, please say hello.

Um, I would remove my phone number from google mr. butler.

Posted by: guest at March 24, 2008 1:43 PM

I'll stop by and give you a big sloppy wet kiss, Bob.

What goes in a Czech cocktail anyway?

Posted by: guest at March 24, 2008 2:36 PM

Hey troll-I'd love to see what you look, like, but any kind of physical contact would be pretty repulsive.

I can't wait for the Flea to open; I just hope against hope that there's some dirt-cheap bargains that aren't tube socks. Something about Czech cocktail carts has me worried on this account, however. "Mid-century" is usually a term meaning "barely old and very overpriced." Well, I'll check it out--maybe there'll be some unusual snacks!

The Prague Kolektiv is totally insanely overpriced. Ideal for a recession! Mr. Brownstoner, maybe if more people buy you can get your totally coewl cocktail table as a complimentary gift. Please everyone charm in we are losing web hits! No more real estate market to tawk about.

This sounds like a retail fair, not a flea market. I was planning to go until I read they NYMag description and saw the photos. am I alone in being disappointed?

Posted by: guest at March 25, 2008 11:29 AM

agreed on prices at prague kolektiv, however, it's pretty amazing stuff. the modernists were alive and well in the czech cities before communism took over. i have to say it's a really interesting design style - deco, futuristic, yet totally desirable.
