Parks Department Hooks Up The Red Hook Vendors

Sometimes David wins. Of course, it helps when the alternative for Goliath is a shitstorm of bad PR. Regardless of the politics, though, the bottom line is another summer (or make that six summers) of endless tacos in Red Hook. As Eater reported, the Red Hook food vendors, which had been threatened by both DOB and Parks over permitting issues, received a new six-year lease on life yesterday. “The Parks Department is happy to keep this longstanding tradition in place by awarding a permit to the Food Vendors Committee of Red Hook Park,” said Commissioner Benepe. WooHoo!!!

I find it irritating and hypocritical that whenever something went wrong the responsibility was laid squarely on the government; when good results such as this case happened it was always attributed to the wisdom of community. The truth is that it takes two to dance. The smug and self-importance projected from these bloggers/slacktivists are too much even for an anti-authoritarian like me.

Oooh, just serve me up a Laxvik and Tromso as I eat my pupusa and huarache in the long lazy summer of 2008!

Can someone give the intersection of where these vendors are located?

Bay St. between Henry and Clinton. I can't wait for the summer!

Thank goodness! Places like this is what makes NYC so awesome. I have some relatives visiting from another country this summer and this is at the top of my list for them to experience. Glad they'll be around for at least 6 more years!
